 Pupils
and staff at Airdrie Academy remembered all those fallen soldiers during a
series of assemblies.
Assemblies
were held for each individual House, led by the House Chaplain with pupils
who had been on the recent school excursion to Belgium recounted personal
memories of their trip and read special poems and prayers. S6 pupil Billie Kerr entertained with a
beautiful song.
At the
end of each assembly a wreath was laid at the school’s war memorial.
Poppies
were sold across the school in the weeks leading up to remembrance day and a
huge number of staff and pupils wore these poppies to commemorate those who
lost their lives.

On Wednesday the 23rd of November, some pupils from
Mavisbank School joined us for a pampering session followed by a sensory music
experience.
Beauty therapy students from New College
Lanarkshire organsied a relaxing pampering session for the Mavisbank pupils and
this was followed by a music lesson that was led and delivered by some of
Airdrie Academy’s Higher Music students. The pupils also organised and developed a
Disney themed workshop which was enjoyed by all.
A huge thank you goes to the students from
New College Lanarkshire and our Higher Music students along with their teachers
for making this workshop so successful.

Literacy Week took place on Monday 7th November to Friday 11th November. This was a week full of exciting and interesting events including guest speakers, authors, workshops, fun lunchtime activities and competitions.
We were also thrilled to be able to welcome many visitors such as Cathy MacPhail, Fred Freeman, Adam McBride, Jeremy Smith, Neil Gray MP and William Coles. This event was a huge success and enjoyed by all.
Sincere thanks goes to our sponsors (Parent Council, Airdrie Taxis, Moseley Distr. and the Royal Society of Edinburgh) who made this terrific line-up of events possible.

Another successful Shop2Drop event ran on Thursday the 10th November raising a spectacular £1176 on the night. This was the result of lots of hard work by the school's senior Personal Development class, supported by the Parent Council Fundraiser's. All of the monies raised will go towards special resources or to help fund trips & reward events.
It was a fantastic night with the Shop2Drop team and also not forgetting our very own super models: Miss Ferguson, Miss Bell, Miss Lilly & S6 pupil Cameron McCormack. The Personal Development team also organised an additional 12 Christmas Stalls to add to the fun.

For the third year running now the S4 National 5 Hospitality pupils served up a delicious Italian themed feast for staff which included Arancini Balls, Rigatoni with Meatballs and Tirimisu. Working towards their National 5 assessments the pupils organised every stage from planning the menu, the invite list, cooking, serving and cleaning up. The food on the night was to an extremely high standard and they were praised by staff for their professionalism and culinary skills.
On 24th November the P.E department lead a trip to Old Trafford to attend the Europa League game of Manchester United v Feyenoord.
