S6 pupils once again went to Belgium to visit sites associated with WW1 and pay their respects to those who gave their lives in the Great War.
They visited museums, trenches and cemeteries in the Ypres area, including the trenches at Hill 62 and Tyne Cot cemetery. Our pupils also participated in the Remembrance service at the Menin Gate, where school captains Matthew Paul, Rhea Currie and Lindsay Rideout laid a wreath on behalf of the school.
Students had the opportunity of taking part in a special workshop 'Coming World Remember Me'. This project will create a Land Art Installation in 2018 to commemorate the Great War and our students were able to create their own clay figure which will be part of this.
There was also time for fun! A day trip to Bruges for canal boats, chocolate and shopping; a sunny afternoon at the beach at Ostend and a day out at Bellewaerde theme park.
S2-S3 Hospitality pupils attended the 'Lets Eat Glasgow' food festival on Sunday the 4th September. Our budding young chefs got a chance to taste foods from some of the best restaurants in Glasgow aswell as taking part in food demonstrations from famous chefs. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed their visit and had a chance to meet and ask questions to professionals working in kitchens around Scotland, whilst also managing to come home with bags of goodies and full bellies.
The S1 Drop In takes place every Wednesday lunchtime in the library. Senior pupils are available to play games with the pupils and provide help and support if required. The numbers are increasing every week and pupils are having lots of fun and making new friends.

The first S5/6 PSHE morning of the session took place recently. The focus of the morning was careers. A large number of visitors came in to the school to speak to pupils and provide information and advice.
There were representatives from various fields including the Army, North Lanarkshire Council and local Banks as well as Colleges and Universities. The morning was very successful and allowed the pupils the opportunity to begin to plan ahead for life after school.

The World Pipe Championships took place in August at Glasgow Green. Pipers and drummers from all over the world come to take part in this competition. A number of pupils from Airdrie Academy participated in this event as part of the North Lanarkshire School's Pipe Band.
The novice juvenile A band came 1st, the novice juvenile B band came 5th and the novice juvenille drummers all came 1st. This was the highest positions they had ever achieved. All of the pupils had a great time and we are very proud of their achievements.
