Prizegiving

The annual school prize giving took place in new Wellwynd Parish Church on Thursday 16th June.  The evening was a great success and provided an opportunity for pupil’s successes to be formally recognised and celebrated. Our School Chaplains were involved in conducting the evening along with Mr Fannon.

Our guest speaker was Professor Jason Leitch, a former pupil of the school who is now National Clinical Director, Heathcare Quality and Strategy for the Scottish Government.  Fabulous entertainment was provided by our talented pupils and School Captain Carly Mills 2015-16 delivered the vote of thanks.  Congratulations to all of our prize winners.

Ice Skating Sucess

Ice Skating

Congratulations to Airdrie Academy pupil Heather McNeil (pictured left) on her recent ice skating success.

Heather recently took part in an Inclusive International Ice Skating competition and, at the same time, the Special Olympics National Figure Skating Championships were held. Heather won a gold ISkate medal for her compulsory elements and an Inclusive Skating silver medal and Special Olympic gold medal for her free skate routine.  Subsequent to this success, she has now been selected to skate for team GB at the Special Olympic World Winter Games next March in Austria.

Huge congratulations to Heather on her achievements.

Rocket Car Challenge

Rocket Car Participants

Recently the Technical Department took 5 teams of S2 and S3 pupils to take part in the "Micro:bit Model Rocket Car Competition".  The competition gave the pupils the opportunity to flex their Design, Manufacture and Engineering skills to achieve the goal of modelling the fastest foam, rocket propelled car.

The teams worked extremely hard within a constrained timeframe to compete against five other schools.  Lots of fun was had by all, with one of our teams (The Nachos), consisting of Kayleigh Dart, Hannah Dempsey and Lorna Manson finishing a valiant 3rd overall. Two of Airdries other teams finished joint 4th. The other two teams managed to design some ultra rapid cars... but they crashed.
