What: changes have been made to the process that researchers need to follow when making amendments to research being carried out in Northern Ireland
Who: anyone carrying out health and social care research with a participating organisation in Northern Ireland who is making an amendment to their study
When: to any new amendments dated from Monday 31 March 2025
From today (Monday 31 March 2025) the process that researchers need to follow to make amendments to studies being carried out in Northern Ireland has changed.
Both multi-centre and single-centre amendments should now be emailed by the sponsor to both the R&D Office, and to the Principal Investigator and delivery team of each participating organisation.
The amendment tool, which is used to categorise and submit amendments, and the email templates which should be used to share amendments, have been updated.
Version 1.7 of the amendments tool is now live and should be used if you are preparing or submitting an amendment to a research study through IRAS.
To view the latest version of the amendment tool visit IRAS Help.
These changes to the amendments sharing process for studies in Northern Ireland now align with the process already in place for sharing amendments with NHS organisations in England or Wales.
You can find out more about these changes on the HSCNI R&D website.
