Thank you to everyone who has given feedback on our draft inclusion and diversity guidance.
We’ve had more than 200 responses so far, which will help make sure the final guidance works for everyone.
Our guidance, produced alongside the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), will help researchers design more inclusive studies, which in turn we hope will increase the diversity of people taking part in clinical trials and clinical investigations.
It’s part of our work with the MHRA to update the UK’s Clinical Trials regulations.
In early 2025 some sponsors and researchers will be invited to pilot an Inclusion and Diversity Plan as part of their application for research approvals.
It will be reviewed by their Research Ethics Committee, and we’ll be asking sponsors and researchers for feedback on developing a plan.
If you’re interested in being part of the pilot, or have any questions about the draft guidance, please contact the HRA’s policy and engagement team.

The MHRA has published its recording of our joint webinar last month on implementing the new UK Clinical Trials regulations. It’s available to people who missed the original session or who’d like a reminder of what was covered.
This included an overview of the proposed changes in the draft regulations, including changes to the approvals process, research transparency requirements and safety reporting.
