Cancer Campaign Resource Update
June 2026
Welcome to the Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance's Cancer Campaign Resource update for June. We work to help reduce the risk of people developing cancer, and to improve survival outcomes and experiences for those who do go on to develop cancer. This month we are asking for help to promote the following things:
-
Men's Health Week (15 to 21 June) -a good chance to promote cancer awareness about cancers that may affect men including: bowel, prostate, lung, head and neck and oesophageal cancers.
- It's Pride Month - see our new campaign to help raise awareness of NHS Lung Cancer Screening amongst the LGBTIQ+ community and share the OUT Patients Remove the Doubt cervical cancer awareness campaign
- It's Cervical Screening Awareness Week (15-21 June) share assets to remind people about attending their smear test
-
Breast cancer remains the most common type of cancer in the UK so this month were asking you to remind people to check their breasts or chest and to see their GP if they have symptoms.
- It's also Womb Cancer Awareness Month and there are some regular reminders about the This Van Can Cancer Awareness Roadshow helping the city to Get Cancer Clever, Sun Safety and more. Our professionals section includes details of our new WhatsApp channel and a short round up about the Greater Manchester Cancer Conference and Awards 2026.

Men's Health Week (15-21 June) |
It's Men's Health Week in June so we are asking for your help to remind your communities about cancers that affect men including: oesophageal cancer, prostate cancer, bowel cancer, lung cancer and head and neck cancer.
Use our new 'Men's Health' tab to help men be aware of tell tale symptoms that they should check with their GP.

Cervical Screening Awareness Week (15-21 June) |
Cervical screening, also known as a smear test, is a test to check the health of the cervix and help prevent cervical cancer. All women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64 are invited for cervical screening every 5 years. Cervical screening involves taking a small sample of cells from your cervix for testing. It's usually done by a female nurse or doctor, who will explain the test and answer any questions you have before they start.
Use our assets to remind people to attend when they get their invite.
We also have six short videos aimed at autistic women and those with a learning disability available on YouTube to help explain cervical screening produced by The University of Manchester and partners for sharing. |

NHS Lung Cancer Screening - LGBTIQ+ Materials |
Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance has teamed up with OUT Patients, the UK’s LGBTIQ+ Cancer Charity, to develop a new communication campaign to raise awareness about NHS Lung Cancer Screening.
Research shows LGBTIQ+ people are more likely to smoke, and therefore need lung cancer screening. However, the community are also more likely to avoid seeking medical attention, even when unwell.

June is Pride Month - it's a great chance to show your solidarity with the LGBTIQ+ community and raise awareness with community specific assets about cancer screening.
Grab the Remove The Doubt social media materials below produced with OUT Patients and the NHS.

The earlier cancer is found, the easier it is to treat. The NHS Get Cancer Clever campaign is about getting everyone to know the key symptoms to look out for, including:
- A lump or swelling anywhere on the body
- A cough or breathlessness lasting more than three weeks
- Unexplained bleeding (in pee, poo, or between periods)
-
Heartburn that lasts for three weeks or more
- Unexplained tiredness, pain, loss of appetite, or weight loss

With soaring temperatures recently, it's important to stay safe from skin cancer. Use at least SPF30 sun cream, cover up and spend time in the shade.
Help us encourage people to take care of their skin in the sun to reduce their risk of skin cancer in the future.
