SENSE Centre for Doctoral Training welcomes new industry partners

SENSE is a new NERC funded Centre for Doctoral Training which will transform environmental science in the UK, by funding 50 PhD students and training them in Earth Observation and advanced data techniques. Students will be based at the University of Edinburgh, University of Leeds, British Antarctic Survey (BAS) or National Oceanography Centre (NOC). SENSE aims to train the next generation of technically excellent and industrially savvy scientists. All students are aligned to an industrial partner and will undertake a 3-month internship at their partner institute in their 3rd year.

As a SENSE industry partner you will be affiliated with SENSE and be invited to our annual industrial symposium. You may be involved in training of SENSE students. By putting your logo on our website your organisation will be easily identified by SENSE academics who seek industry links in research projects and by SENSE students considering their future careers.

You can also choose to become a formal CASE partner of a PhD project, and by providing financial support you can supervise a PhD project in collaboration with academics at a SENSE institute and have a highly-trained, self-motivated PhD student embedded at your organisation for 3 months. There are currently a number of students starting in October this year who are seeking CASE partners for their projects.

We have two upcoming mixer events (17th and 25th August) for academics and industry professionals to start collaborations on new projects, for studentships that start in October 2021. At these you will meet academics at Edinburgh, Leeds, NOC and BAS to form collaborations for new studentships.

Register your interest for the mixer events here, or please get in touch with Ruth Amey (SENSE Leeds Centre Manager,  R.M.J.Amey@leeds.ac.uk) for any queries.
