Falling down the stairs can lead to serious injuries such as fractures and sprains. Many of these injuries can be avoided by simply using handrails. Remember to look out for each other and intervene if you see a colleague not holding the handrail.

RAP marks a significant milestone at NNL’s Central Laboratory
PPP’s Replacement Analytical Project (RAP) is passing some significant milestones this summer.
In preparation for the commencement of physical works at the National Nuclear Laboratory Central Laboratory on the Sellafield site, the project team has taken custody of the lecture theatre and surrounding areas in the basement of the lab.
This is a key step to enable the deconstruction of the area, which is scheduled to begin on Monday 15 August 2022. Custody transfer will allow the PPP project to establish control arrangements within the area and consequently limit access into the area to essential construction personnel only.
The Office of Nuclear Regulation (ONR), after two readiness reviews, has declared it is satisfied with the preparatory steps and command and control arrangements have been established for the implementation phase of the works.
This work is a hugely complex and collaborative arrangement between the project teams, NNL teams and Sellafield’s Analytical Services programme. The physical site works in August mark the first stage of nine years of site construction works to prepare and install new analytical services at the modern NNL facility.
Look out for future RAP updates as construction work progresses alongside the design of the new laboratories and technical capabilities.
The new site works at Central Laboratory (B141):
Next time you walk through the north gate, you might notice cranes delivering new site office’s at the central laboratory – this is all a part of the Replacement Analytical Project (RAP), which will build new facilities for Sellafield’s Analytical Services over the next eight years.

Phase one of SRP's main underground services complete
The latest step forward and success for Sellafield Product and Residue Store Retreatment Plant is the completion of the Infrastructure Connections Annual Operating Plan milestone to deliver the project's main underground services.
The project delivered three packages of work:
- New water mains pipelines, raw, domestic and waste water.
- In the south phase of the surface water drainage, 224m of new pipeline and 8 new manholes were installed, including excavations up to 2.8m deep.
- New high-voltage ducting and drawpits included the installation of 318m of ducting and 10 drawpits to supply the facility with power.
The project has delivered this task within a congested site with multiple excavations open at a time. Integration with SRP's main build was essential to ensure laydown areas were maintained for the main contractor.
This success has been achieved with collaborative working between the Infrastructure Connections ADT Project Team, Sellafield Master Planning, Sellafield Utilities and DSD, who have been fundamental in achieving this success.

Evolving PPP’s Head of 5th Partner role
As we move into the next phase of PPP, we’d like to announce that Steve Harnwell will take on the role of Head of 5th Partner on the PPP Management Board, alongside his existing role as Delivery Director for SRP.
Graeme Rankin has held the role of 5th Partner during a key period for PPP and will hand over to Steve in the coming weeks.
Duncan Elliott, Head of PPP, said:
“I’d like to thank Graeme for all he has done for PPP, helping to embed and integrate our Sellafield colleagues as a key part of one PPP team.
“Merging these roles under Steve is one of the many steps we are taking to bring our PPP programme and projects even closer together, become more integrated and to support the acceleration of our performance. deliver the benefits of the model and get our partnership fit for the future.”
The 5th Partner is a key part of PPP’s success. It ensures Sellafield Ltd people are assigned and embedded into delivery roles within the PPP Aligned Delivery Teams. This allows people from all five organisations to grow and develop, enhancing their skills and experiences as they deliver our major projects together.
Seddon Construction Ltd latest to come on board with partners at Sellafield Ltd
Seddon Construction Ltd has been appointed to deliver the building fit-out requirement, through a fourth framework agreement worth £175 million over the next 17 years, until March 2039.

The framework includes general construction activities such as: internal walls, ceilings, screeding, flooring, painting and joinery.

 Sixth Share & Learn delivered
The sixth and latest session in PPP’s Share & Learn series focuses on a key stakeholder for PPP, the Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) who are the government’s centre of expertise for infrastructure and major projects.
The client team’s head of culture Laura Doughty opened the session, setting the scene with an introduction into the IPA’s link to PPP and Sellafield Ltd, before handing over to Sellafield’s Head of Projects Chris Farrell.
Chris recently returned from a secondment with the IPA and shared his insights and learning around the IPA’s role in the Government Major Projects Portfolio (GMPP), which includes PPP’s SRP, SCP and RAP projects, acknowledging their significance to the government and nation.
The GMPP ensures robust oversight of the government’s most complex and strategically significant projects and programmes. The GMPP comprises the largest, most innovative and highest risk projects and programmes delivered by government.
All past Share & Learn sessions can be watched again via the links below. If prompted for a password, please enter Share&LearnPPP.
