National Videogame Arcade opens this Saturday 28 March

The NVA is a place where the whole family can discover videogames, play videogames and make videogames!

The five-storey building in the heart of Nottingham’s Creative Quarter promotes the diverse cultural, educational, economic and social benefits of games. On offer will be a mixture of permanent and constantly-changing exhibitions suitable for all ages. Tickets are £8.50.

New acts announced for Splendour Festival Line-up

Bananarama, James and Lawson have been added to the line-up for Splendour, taking place on Saturday 18 July in Wollaton Park.

They'll join The Specials and a host of other acts, as well as comedians including Christian Reilly and Ellie Taylor, for what's sure to be a fun-filled summer's day for the whole family.

Search the Collection at Nottingham Castle

Three young artists will present their personal responses to Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery’s Fine Art Painting collection in a special exhibition entitled ‘Search The Collection’.  The exhibition will be open to the public 28 – 29 March in the Castle’s Long Gallery.  The artists, all with links to Nottingham, have been commissioned to produce the work with the aim of engaging a younger audience with the history of Nottingham, the Castle and its Fine Art collection.

Nottingham Creative Fringe Festival: 27 - 29 March

Don't miss the popular Arts Fair on Sneinton Marketplace running on Saturday 28th (2pm – 6pm) and Sunday 29th (12noon – 5pm). The fair offers an alternative weekend shopping experience, with stalls from local designer-makers, fine artists, fashion, print, books and music, as well as fresh coffee and local produce. The fair will be complimented by live music from local artists and DJs.

Date for your diary: FREE entry to Nottingham Castle and Newstead Abbey on Sunday 26 April!

Enjoy free entry to Nottingham Castle on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 April AND Free entry to Newstead Abbey on Sunday 26 April. It's part of BBC Radio Nottingham's Big Day Out, with free entry to attractions around the county.

You'll save £5.50 per adult at Nottingham Castle, and £6 per carload of passengers at Newstead Abbey - please note that car parking charges still apply.

Green's Windmill sails return!

Nottingham's own urban windmill has seen it's sails restored this week after a fundraising drive raised £40,000 to fix them.

Learn to spin your own wool: Sunday 29 March

Spinning wool is a creative and sociable craft that is not difficult to learn with a bit of expert tuition. Make your own drop spindle to take away (with some fleece, too), learn to use it and have a go on a spinning wheel.

Drop in for Easter fun from 11am - 3pm. £3 per child.

1940s knees up

Grab your tickets for the 1940s Knee's Up!

Pull on your tea dress and pin your hair into victory rolls, the 1940s Knee's Up is back this May Bank Holiday Monday (4 May).

As ever, they'll be a range of brilliant old-fashioned activities, including:

  • Meet the heroes and heroines of the home front
  • Find out if you could have coped with rationing, food to fashion
  • Watch the Swing Dancers in action
  • Join Johnny Victory and sing-a-long to some of the old favourites
  • Play old fashioned street games
  • See the 508th Parachute infantry Regiment display with Jump 44
  • Listen to Jayne Darling and the Jump & Jive Swing Band
