Welcome to the latest edition of Waste and Recycling News from Nottingham City Council. Our e-newsletter will provide you with current information on our services, plus tips and advice on how you can help keep Nottingham clean.

Do you have unwanted textiles?

Textiles bag

Nottingham City Council runs a scheme to help city households recycle clothes and other textiles.

To obtain a red bag for textile recycling, please call our Contact Centre on 0115 915 2000 or email waste.management@nottinghamcity.gov.uk. All you need to do is put your textiles in the bag provided, tie it securely and leave it out to be collected next to your grey-lidded recycling bin on your recycling day.

If you already recycle your textiles by donating to charities or by using your local textiles recycling site, then please continue to do so. Our scheme is designed to make it easier for you to recycle and we will take old and worn items that charity shops would not want. For further information click here.

Only one bag will be collected on recycling day. If you need to recycle more than this, please call 915 2000 to order additional bags and to book a special textiles recycling collection appointment through our FREE bulky waste collection service.

Tackling Dog Fouling!

Day of Action

Dog fouling remains a major concern for local people.

We are tackling the problem by working across the city with our three FIDO machines clearing up dog mess and prosecuting irresponsible dog owners who do not clear up after their dogs.

This week our FIDO Teams, Community Protection and our Neighbourhood Development Officers have been engaging with residents in New Basford and Forest Fields - two of our most problematic areas - to encourage them to pick up after their dogs and report dog fouling and irresponsible dog owners. We will continue this work in other priority areas over the coming months.

You can do your bit! If you are a dog owner, please bag it and bin it, or report irresponsible dog owners on 9152000 or online at www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/reportit

Let us help you save money on your gas and energy bills

Switch and Save

Fed up with energy price rises?

We have made it easier for our residents to save money on their gas and electricity bills – with Nottingham City Council’s own energy switching service.

There doesn’t seem to be a day that goes by without one of the energy companies putting up their prices, at a time when many of us have to tighten our belts. Switching gas and electricity providers is the easiest way to save money on your bills but 60% have never switched at all or kept the same suppliers for three or more years.

Why not give it a try? You can do it online at www.nottinghamenergytariff.com or by calling 0800 310 2333 to talk through the energy price comparison.

It is the easiest way to save money on your energy bills and will take less than half an hour to complete. The impartial service could save user £200 on average.  One lucky person has saved £768 on their yearly combined gas and electricity bill!

We can provide resources to help you - including litter pickers - and if you register your clean up via the website, Keep Britain Tidy will send you a free start up pack!

So whether you're a group of friends and neighbours, a litter clean-up group, a local business, a school or on your own, what better way to kick off the season than by organising a big spring clean?
