Today's Forecast

A bright afternoon but with cloud starting to build from the west by dusk. Road Surface Temp's will dip after sunset but will remain above freezing in all areas and start to rise as wet and very windy conditions (SW 10-15mph during the afternoon, becoming S to SE 25-30mph with gusts up to 40-45mph at times. By dawn decreasing SW 15-20mph with isolated gusts to 30mph at times) spread in from the west . By the early hours the rain and wind will be moving away east to be followed by a bright and sunny Thursday morning with a few isolated showers of rain developing. Minimum Surface temps of Plus 3C expected.

Outlook for the next four days (forecasts run from midday to midday)
Thursday

Sunny spells and scattered showers throughout Thursday. The showers may continue at times overnight with a risk of some turning wintry (slight accumulations possible). Risk of icy patches forming on any wet roads from the previous showers.

Friday

Continuing with the showery weather, some possibly wintry at times with slight accumulations possible, interspersed with some drier and clearer weather. Another cold night to come with a risk of icy patches and hoar frost forming on untreated surfaces.

Saturday

and

Sunday

A mainly dry start to Saturday but cloudy. The cloud will continue to thicken from the west bringing outbreaks of rain across the network later in the evening. There is currently a low risk that on the back edge of this band of rain that it will turn to snow overnight, however there is great uncertainty surrounding this at present.

The band of rain/sleet/snow is currently expected to clear eastwards of the network during Sunday afternoon to leave a largely dry and clear night. This will allow temperatures to fall below freezing, allowing a risk of icy patches and hoar frost to form on untreated surfaces.

Please Note: The colour code used for the headings for these forecast refer to the weather forecast and not the need to grit.
RED - The weather will cause road surface temperatures to fall or stay below zero.
