East Midlands Railway (EMR) has confirmed that strike action by members of the RMT union over the bank holiday weekend will impact services on Sunday and Monday (30 and 31 August).
Trains are expected to be extremely busy on these dates, especially due to essential engineering work on the East Coast Main Line affecting services to and from London King’s Cross on Sunday. EMR will operate a significantly-reduced timetable for both days, with trains running from 8am and finishing before 7pm.
Customers are being advised to only travel if their journey is absolutely essential and to check their entire trip, including first and last trains, before travelling. No rail replacement bus services will be provided.

As a result of this strike action, the planned Intercity timetable uplift will now take place on Tuesday 1 September. Further information can be found here.
Improvements are being made to Sneinton Hermitage and the Colwick Road bus corridor.
These works are designed to improve bus reliability, make stops more accessible for passengers and help reduce congestion at known traffic bottlenecks along the route.
To carry out the works safely, temporary traffic lights will be in operation during parts of the programme and some on-street parking will need to be suspended temporarily in specific locations while construction is taking place.
Access for residents, businesses and pedestrians will be maintained throughout the works wherever possible, and all traffic movements will continue to be accommodated.
Works started on Monday (24 August) and are expected to take around six weeks to complete.

The next section of work to improve Nuthall Road is due to be completed next week.
Nottingham City Council is resurfacing the road (pavements where required) and improving the area around the base of the trees where roots have damaged the pavement between Western Boulevard and Aspley Lane.
Work began at the end of June and continues until Tuesday (1 September), with some weekend work. The hours of work will vary to suit the network. Please see information below and attached plans for further details on inbound and outbound road closures and diversion routes.

Nottingham City Council has started work on a project to make changes along Gregory Boulevard to make the area safer for everyone - especially those walking and cycling.
Following the allocation of funding from the East Midlands Combined Authority (EMCCA) and national government for this project, the council has been planning the project and consulting with local people.
Engagement was carried out in May and June 2026 with more than two thirds (69 per cent) of respondents indicating they were supportive of the proposals.
The improvements along Gregory Boulevard between the A60 Mansfield Road and Noel Street will include:
- adding 850 metres of cycle path, separate from the road
- resurfacing the road and pavements
- upgrading existing crossings and adding a new signalised crossing for pedestrians and cyclists
- adding plants which help manage surface water and create habitat for wildlife
The construction programme is scheduled to last approximately 13 months, ending in late summer 2027.
The works have been planned around Goose Fair (with no works coinciding with the fair) and to take advantage of the summer holidays when traffic levels are lower, to help cause as little disruption as possible.
