Nottingham City Council is starting work next week (3 August) on a project to make changes along Gregory Boulevard to make the area safer for everyone - especially those walking and cycling.
Following the allocation of funding from the East Midlands Combined Authority (EMCCA) and national government for this project, the council has been planning the project and consulting with local people.
Engagement was carried out in May and June 2026 with more than two thirds (69 per cent) of respondents indicating they were supportive of the proposals.
The improvements along Gregory Boulevard between the A60 Mansfield Road and Noel Street will include:
- adding 850 metres of cycle path, separate from the road
- resurfacing the road and pavements
- upgrading existing crossings and adding a new signalised crossing for pedestrians and cyclists
- adding plants which help manage surface water and create habitat for wildlife
Work will begin at the end of July 2026 with a construction programme scheduled to last approximately 13 months, ending in late summer 2027.
The works have been planned around Goose Fair (with no works coinciding with the fair) and to take advantage of the summer holidays when traffic levels are lower, to help cause as little disruption as possible.

NET trams have reminded passengers that buses are now replacing trams for a fortnight on a section of the network.
Until Sunday 9 August, work is being carried out to replace track at Wilkinson Street and Noel Street. Normal service will resume on Monday 10 August.
There are no tram services operating between Wilkinson Street and The Forest, with a replacement bus service travelling in a loop to serve both stops.
NET have asked passengers to allow additional time for their journey. Customers who usually park in the Wilkinson Street car park are encouraged to consider using The Forest instead to minimise disruption to their journey.

Trentbarton has made changes to some of its bus services following a review of customer use and punctuality.
The Cotgrave and Skylink express services no longer serve the Broad Marsh bus station.
The operator said previously that extensive surveying found that 90 per cent of customers leaving Nottingham use stops on Friar Lane, Beastmarket Hill or Nottingham train station, rather than the bus station.
Trentbarton says removing the bus station from these routes would also help improve punctuality by around three to five minutes.
The Cotgrave service will run directly from Beastmarket Hill to Nottingham train station, while Skylink express will run directly from Friar Lane to the station.

NET trams continue to work on the Station Street lift, which is being replaced over the coming weeks and is temporarily out of use.
The works will run until Friday 14 August and will see a new lift installed to take people between street level and the tram bridge above.
Alternative lifts are available inside the train station and at the car park next door - both serve the tram platform. Access via the stairs at Station Street will remain during the work.
