Robin Hood Walks Notts: One Challenge, Many Ways to Move

robin walks logo

Looking for a simple way to get your pupils moving this May? With National Walking Month taking place throughout the month, Mental Health Awareness Week highlighting the importance of movement for wellbeing, and MOVE Week encouraging regular sport and physical activity at the end of May, your school has a great opportunity to help children be active in fun and inclusive ways.

The Robin Walks Notts Challenge is a simple way to link into all three campaigns by encouraging pupils to get moving and record their active minutes across the school day, whether through walking, wheeling, active play or other activities. It is a great way to build movement into daily routine, support physical and mental wellbeing, and help children develop positive active habits.

Menstrual Hygiene Day

menstrual hygiene day

Menstrual Hygiene Day on 28 May is a timely reminder of the important role your school can play in supporting girls to feel confident, included and able to take part fully in school life. Periods can have a real impact on physical activity levels, with pain, worry, fatigue and embarrassment often making girls less likely to join in with PE, sport and active play. By creating a period friendly environment, your school can help remove these barriers, making it easier for girls to stay active, feel comfortable in lessons, take part with confidence and continue enjoying the physical, social and emotional benefits of movement.

The Youth Sport Trust’s Let’s All Talk Periods blog includes helpful advice and resources to support these conversations and help your setting better support girls in school. Click here for more.

nottz garden project

Looking for ways to extend healthy, active learning beyond the school gates? The Nottz Garden Project offers a great opportunity to encourage your pupils and families to get involved in their local community through outdoor activities such as gardening, planting and improving shared spaces.

Their work brings people together around food, growing and greener neighbourhoods, helping children see how being active can also support community wellbeing, connection and pride in where they live. It is a lovely way for your school to promote active citizenship and encourage pupils to take part in healthy, positive activity outside of school. Learn more here.

C Card Scheme Survey

Nottingham City Council Public Health are promoting a short, anonymous survey for 16–25 year olds in Nottingham to help them understand young people’s sexual health needs. The findings will directly feed into how they design and launch the new C Card scheme later this year, and they need your help to circulate the survey to the target group.

If you or someone you know are aged 16-25, you can take part in the Nottingham City Council survey here. It only takes a couple of minutes and there's an option to enter a draw to win a £50 voucher!
