Nottingham's Green Heart development has received national recognition, and award nominations, in recent weeks.
Nominations for both the 'Architect's Journal (AJ) Architect Awards 2025' and the 'Pro Landscaper Sustainability Awards 2025' recognise the social and environmental considerations of the flagship project - supporting the Council's vision to support a 'flourishing, connected and sustainable city where every resident can thrive". Whilst the project missed out at the Pro Landscaper Awards, keep an eye out on the 27th November for the AJ Architect Awards.
These nominations follow on from a win for the Broad Marsh project at the East Midlands Property Awards, recognising the ambition of the wider project in developing this area of the city.
Councillor Neghat Khan, Leader of Nottingham City Council and Executive Member for Strategic Regeneration, Property and Communications, said "What we’ve created and the way the wider Broad Marsh area continues to be transformed is worthy of recognition."
"The Green Heart has proved extremely popular with residents and visitors to Nottingham. It celebrated its first birthday at the start of last month and the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust has documented numerous species of insects and small mammals on the site.”

Following on from the news of £18.2 million of funding under the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund last month, Nottingham City Council has been awarded an additional grant for £7.4 million to improve homes across the city.
The Warm Homes Local Grant (WH:LG) awarded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), will be utilised in the private housing sector. Funded measures will seek to make homes across Nottingham warmer, whilst lowering energy bills, reducing carbon emissions, and tackling fuel poverty.

A government grant of £5.025 million will see Nottingham expand its citywide recycling collection and disposal.
This grant will aid the Council's efforts in upgrading recycling infrastructure and vehicles, whilst improving access to recycling services. Additional staff will be on hand to help residents understand new services, how they will benefit from the changes, and how residents can participate. These improvements will contribute to the Council's waste reduction and sustainability targets.
Councillor Corall Jenkins, Executive Member for Neighbourhoods, Waste and Equalities said: "Improving recycling by taking even more fossil-fuel derived plastic waste out of our residual waste, alongside food waste collections, will also help us reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, taking us closer towards our sustainability and CN28 targets.”

Numerous improvements have been going on across the city, improving access to active travel routes and improving user experiences.
Improved roads and paths 🛣️ across Nottingham thanks to the Streets for People programme. 15km of roads and paths, across over 100 schemes, have helped to make walking and cycling easier for residents across the city.
Progress with Waterside Bridge 🌉 has continued, with the bridge expected to be lifted into place in November. Once opened, expected in Spring 2026, the bridge will provide economic opportunity alongside active travel opportunities across both sides of the river.
NET trialling of more frequent evening tram service 🚃 comes following customer feedback during Goose Fair, as well as the 2024 festive period. The one-month trial period commenced on the 6th October.
