 Councillors have approved plans for work to get underway on Nottingham’s new Central Library in July, creating a landmark development at the heart of the city’s regenerated Southside.
Opening next summer the new library will feature a high-quality children’s library with an immersive story telling room, extensive book collection and comfortable areas to sit and read. Other amenities will include:

Feature book walls and shelving to display a large collection of books
- Free WiFi and free access to computers, laptops and iPads
- A café & ground floor reception area which can be converted into a performance space
- Specialist and rare collections room for local studies materials

Learning lab for special activities and school class visits
- Meeting rooms
- Exhibition space
- Creative design areas

Business Intellectual Property Centre for the city.

 It's Pride Month - a time to celebrate LGBTQ+ identities, accomplishments and reflect on the struggle for equality. It’s also a chance for LGBTQ+ families to share their experiences with the wider world.
To mark the month we have curated some of our favourite titles centred on the LGBTQ+ experience.

 Nottingham City Libraries are working in partnership with Nottingham City Museums to bring two D. H. Lawrence Creative Writing Workshops to Wollaton Library.
In celebration of the acquisition of the last known portrait of D. H. Lawrence (available to view at Newstead Abbey), we are running creative writing workshops, which will explore the work of the famous Nottinghamshire writer. Drawing inspiration from Lawrence’s fascinating and varied written portraits of the area he called ‘the country of my heart,’ and of the people who lived here, participants will be encouraged to write about their own places and people.
Workshops are free and take place at Wollaton Library
- Saturday 2 July, 10am to 12pm (for anyone aged 16+)
- Saturday 16 July, 10am to 12pm (for 11-16 year olds)

 Find out more about your family tree at our Family History drop in sessions, where experts will be on hand to give practical guidance and signpost you to useful resources.
The first Thursday of each month, 10am to 12pm at St Ann's Valley Library. The next session will be 7 July.

Explore over 50 million pages from local newspapers in the British Newspaper Archive. Hosted by the British Library, the archive is gradually digitising local newspaper titles from all over the country creating an invaluable resource for local and family historians.
Local titles include Nottingham Post, Nottingham Journal and Football Post plus many others from the surrounding county. Why not search for your ancestors and see if they made the news?
The British Newspaper Archive can be accessed on library PCs in all libraries.
