Student waste issues - thank you

waste student

Thank you to all those landlords and agents who supported us and helped to clear waste from outside their properties and on front gardens.

We know this time of year can be extremely busy and stressful for student landlords, so thank you for all your great work.

There are still remaining issues with waste at properties in certain areas and we are contacting landlords directly to sort this.

We are also working with the University to see what more they can do to prevent this from happening each year. We would urge landlords to also include decant wastes terms in their Tenancy Agreements to try and stop this from happening and stop you being left with a clearing bill at the end.

Safer Streets – burglary reduction

We are working with Nottinghamshire Police and the Police and Crime Commissioner to tackle burglary in parts of Lenton, Hyson Green and the Arboretum - where burglary is a particular issue.

The work is being funded from a £432,000 grant from the Government’s Safer Streets Fund and will be used in a range of ways, including:

  • Free security upgrades such as new locks, alarms and CCTV at up to 500 homes
  • Free video doorbells to up to 375 student properties
  • Installation of CCTV camera in Bridlington Street Park which will be live-monitored at the City Council’s CCTV control room
  • A Burglary Reduction Officer post to liaise with burglary victims/neighbours to undertake risk assessments

Landlords and tenants of eligible properties will be contacted in the near future to look at what safety measures we can help with.

Nottingham City Council’s Safer Housing Team will be joining other councils to update on housing licensing.

The event is being held at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, but it will also be shown online. Find out more, including the agenda and how to book onto this free event HERE.

Days of Action

Following the summer holidays, neighbourhood Days of Action will be starting up again.

These are where partners come together to tackle issues that mean the most to residents.

There are three days happening in September and we will be out at each of them, carrying out inspections, compliance work and speaking to tenants.

We will be in Bulwell, Bulwell Forest and Bestwood, so if you own and rent out a property there, we may well be coming to your property.
