Summer Wildlife Walks

Join us and the Wildlife in the City Group for a series of walks in June, July and August. They are free to come along to and welcome to all. Summer Evening Wildflower Walk on 19th June

Stanton Tip in Bulwell, 6pm-8pm

A walk around the old Babbington Colliery pit-tip in search of the wildflowers. We will also be looking for moths, butterflies, birds and bats. Meet at the Cinderhill Tram Stop, NG6 8SF, on Bagnall Road next to the Headstocks Pub. The walk will take approximately 2 hours and there are some slopes and rough paths.

Whitemoor

Nature Walk on 25th June

Whitemoor Nature Reserve, Basford, 10am-12pm


Whitemoor Nature reserve is positioned between the River Leen and Whitemoor allotments, it has a mix of river banks, marsh, ponds, open grassland, scrub and woodland providing a variety of habitats for a wide variety of wildlife.

Meet at Wilkinson Street Tram Stop, NG8 5FJ. The entrance is a walk way next to the Tram Tracks going north towards Hucknall. The walk will take around 1.5 hours and the ground is level, with a network of paths.

 

 


Bulwell Hall

Nature Walk on 16th July

Bulwell Hall Park, 10am-12pm


A mix of woodlands open grassland and meadows provide a variety of habitats for wildflowers, butterflies and birds.

Meet at the main entrance to the park, Norwich Gardens off Sandhurst Road NG6 8LF. This walk will last around 2 hours and there are muddy woodland paths, uneven ground & level paths throughout. There is a café and toilets on site at the golf pavilion, near the main car park.

Summer evening wild flower walk on 17th July

Quarry Holes, 6pm-8pm

A woodland and meadow walk to look at the range of wildflowers growing in different habitats. Meet at the entrance on Tilbury Rise at 18.00, return around 20.00. The ground is uneven in places, with some slopes.

 


 

Bat and moth watch on 27th July

Greens Mill, Sneinton, from 9pm

A look at what moth and bat species you can find at the park next to Nottingham's only flour producing mill. Bring refreshments for a late evening picnic. Booking is essential, so please email the City Group at nwtcitygroup@gmail.com to book your place. There are surfaced paths throughout, with some steps and slopes. Nature Walk on 1st August

Beeston Sidings LNR 10am-12pm

Previously railway sidings, this brownfield site is home to the elusive slow worm, white-letter hairstreak and purple hairstreak butterflies along with various wildflowers and birds.

Meet outside the Lakeside Arts Centre in Highfields Park NG7 2RD, we will walk across University Boulevard to the reserve returning to Highfields Park via the Hockey Club. The walk will last around 2 hours and there is some uneven ground.
