A couple of May walks winging their way to you which you'll not want to miss!

Spring Wildflowers - Clifton Woods

One of the best displays of bluebells locally can be seen on Clifton Woods. Why not join us for a walk to see them? Although the bluebells have flowered early this year and so may be past their best, there are other things of interest to see!

Thursday 9th May - 10am

Meet at Holgate Car Park - Clifton Village, near the church on Holgate NG11 8NL.

Bus NCT No1 Navy Line, Clifton Green stop then walk through Clifton Village either along Nethergate or Village Road.

2 hours, muddy woodland tracks, uneven ground, slopes.

Dawn Chorus - General Cemetery, Nottingham Arboretum, Forest Recreation Ground and Rock Cemetery

Early morning start for this walk visiting a selection of parks and cemeteries to celebrate National Dawn Chorus Day.

Sunday 5th May - 4am

3 hours, paths & pavements, some slopes.

Meet at Canning Circus gates NG7 3ND, finishing at the Homemade Café at the Forest Recreation Ground, where optional breakfast may be purchased.

Join our park ranger every Wednesday to take part in a range of conservation volunteering activities and make a difference!

Volunteering is a great opportunity to experience the outdoors, visit new places and learn about wildlife, learn new skills, meet new people and get active - all for free.

The activities are different for each site and it depends what time of year it is. Some examples of what you may be involved with are; Meadow cutting, Wildlife surveying, Hedge laying, Fencing repairs, Woodland management, Path clearance and Invasive species control.

Forthcoming volunteer days

There will be 2 volunteering sessions at Fairham Brook Nature Reserve next week. Both will be to clear some of the footpaths, cutting back overhead branches and bramble to make it easier to walk through. Both sessions start at 10am and usually last until 2pm. Please wear suitable work clothing and bring waterproofs, a packed lunch and something to drink. A flask for hot drinks will be available. There are no facilities on these sites so bring everything you need with you.

Wednesday 1st May will be in the northern end of the reserve. Meeting place is the entrance on Farnborough Road. This is about half way between Clifton Lane/Green Lane roundabout and Summerwood Lane. NG11 9AD.

Bus NCT 3 stop at The Fairham, or NCT 53 stop at Fairham School. Both on Farnborough Road.

Saturday 4th May is at the southern end of the reserve. Meeting Place is on Summerwood Lane at the corner of Breckswood Drive, NG11 9DQ.
