October is a special month for Age Friendly Nottingham as it
starts with International Older People's Day. We marked the day with a lively
event focusing on how Employment and Volunteering in later life can be
encouraged and supported.
Other celebrations included events hosted by Nottingham City
Homes in Beechdale and St Anns and a ‘Full of Life’ day in Bulwell.
Age Friendly Nottingham would like to invite you to a forum ‘Living longer: how our population is changing and what are the implications for the economy, public services, society and the individual’, from 12.15 pm
– 1.45 pm on Wednesday 14 November. The forum will review the latest ONS statistics and
discuss what the changes could mean for older citizens. To reserve your place or for more information contact: healthandwellbeing@nottinghamcity.gov.uk.
Best wishes to you all and I hope everyone enjoys the nice
weather that’s forecast over the coming days.

Pensions,
expenditure and decision-making in retirement
Age UK have
published the report 'For love and money: women's pensions, expenditure and decision-making in retirement'. The report calls for urgent reforms to the divorce process so
private pensions are split fairly. It
warns that many divorced people are potentially losing out on substantial
sums of money and other assets in retirement because the issue of their
entitlement to their partner’s private pension never even gets raised as part
of the divorce process. Women in particular are missing out.

yourself.

Don’t put off getting
flu vaccination - be a flu fighter!
Flu is a highly infectious disease and can lead to serious
complications if you have a long-term health condition like COPD, bronchitis or
diabetes. On top of health conditions like these, flu can easily develop into
something very serious and could land you in hospital.
People with long-term health conditions and everyone aged over 65
are eligible for a free flu jab. Pregnant women and front-line health and
social care workers are also eligible for the free flu jab, and toddlers
aged two or three and school children (years 1 – 5) can get the free flu
nasal spray to protect them from illness.
To get your free flu vaccination, contact your GP or pharmacist.
Visit the NHS website to find out more about the flu
vaccination and why it's so important
