Tram track works - 23 August - 2 September

From Thursday 23 August the tramway will be closed for 10 days between The Forest and Wilkinson Street stops while essential track maintenance work is carried out.

Unfortunately these works will have an impact on both tram passengers and motorists, and affect access to The Forest Park & Ride site.

Services will go back to normal on Monday 3 September, when affected roads will also reopen.

Work is being carried out around the clock - with consideration for residents - in order to minimise disruption.


I use the tram - how will I be affected?

Trams will not be operating between Wilkinson Street and The Forest, but replacement bus shuttles will be in operation - please allow an extra 30 minutes for your journey.

Trams from Hucknall and Phoenix Park will run to Wilkinson Street, while services from Clifton South and Toton Lane will stop at The Forest.

There will be a temporary change to the timetable, meaning trams will not be running before 6am and after midnight during the works.

Five stops will be closed:

  • Radford Road
  • Hyson Green Market
  • Shipstone Street
  • Beaconsfield Street
  • Noel Street

I drive - how will this affect me?

The junction of Gregory Boulevard and Noel Street will be closed, so if you usually drive that way you will need to take an alternative route.

The Forest Park & Ride will only be accessible from the Mansfield Road side - see the diversion below - so you may need to allow some extra time for your journey.

The junction of Noel Street and Gladstone Street will also be closed, and temporary traffic management will be in place around the Hyson Green Market area, although Radford Road and Terrace Street will remain open.

Signed diversions will be in place for all closures.

Why is this work happening?

Nottingham Express Transit (NET), which runs the tram network, has to carry out essential maintenance work from time to time. Last year the tram carried around 18 million passengers, and it's crucial to keep the network in top condition.

This is a busy section of the network, and some stretches of track have been in place since the tram opened 14 years ago.

The work to replace them will ensure NET can continue to provide a safe, comfortable and reliable service to customers. 

Constantina Samara, NET Customer Service Manager, said: “The tracks are being replaced during the summer holidays as this is traditionally the quietest time of the year, and engineers will be doing all they can to complete the work as quickly as possible.

We would advise customers to allow extra time for their journeys and apologise for any inconvenience whilst we carry out this planned maintenance that’s vital to the safe and efficient running of the network.”
