There Was A Boy

Nottingham City Council has produced There Was A Boy in collaboration with 15 other local authorities across the Midlands.

The storyline shows a vulnerable teenager’s life in two parallel situations – similar to the 1998 film Sliding Doors – one where he is fostered and one where he is not. The short film shows what a positive influence foster carers can be and how they have the power to make a huge difference to a young person’s life chances and outlook.

Children and Families Direct

Children and Families Direct is the easy way to access family support and safeguarding services within Nottingham City. There are many services available to support children and families. The 'one stop shop' means you can access all of them using just one telephone number or email address.

To make either a safeguarding referral or a request for services to Nottingham City Council Children's Integrated Services please complete the Multi Agency Request for Services Form (MARF). A MARF template and guidance on how to complete it can be found here.

Ask LiON

Ask LiON www.asklion.co.uk is the new online directory for information, advice and guidance for Adult and Children’s health and social care in Nottingham.

LiON has information about schools, children’s centres, childcare, play & youth provision and the local offer for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

Additionally LiON also has information about support services for children and families, including education support services, family support including safeguarding children, health, social care, advice & guidance and SEND services.

LiON can be used as a resource for professionals when supporting parents as well as for parents to use themselves.

Water Safety

During the school holidays, and in particular in hot weather, increasing numbers of children put themselves at risk of drowning. Sadly on average 40-50 children drown per year in the UK.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA) have lots of information about water safety which can be found on their website, please click here to access it.

Resources for working with children of offenders

Barnardo’s has launched the National Information Centre on Children of Offenders (NICCO), The website provides resources, information on services, policy developments, events, training opportunities and practice models to professionals who come into contact with the children and families of offenders in England and Wales, as well as academics and those responsible for strategic development and commissioning.

Sun Safety

We have been lucky enough of late to enjoy some sunny weather. However, it's really important that we all stay safe in the sun.

Last year the Children’s Burns Service at Nottingham Children’s Hospital saw a 350% increase in children being admitted with sunburn.

Safeguarding Practice Review Panel

The Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel has been formed by the Department for Education (DfE). The Panel will be responsible for identifying and reviewing serious child safeguarding cases which it believes raises issues and themes that are complex or of national importance. It will look at what could be done differently to improve the protection and welfare of children, and what implications these cases have on current and future policy or practices.
