Hoodwinked - what a little bird told us

Hoodwinked

Hoodwinked - the biggest event in Nottingham for summer 2018.

Hoodwinked is a unique free public art trail that will run through Nottingham city centre from July to September 2018.

It celebrates the legend of Robin Hood – but with a mischievous twist on the tale. The sculptures transform our merry man in green into robins, all based on an identical mould but each one unique, designed and painted by an artist.  Each sculpture will be sponsored by a business.

Nottingham City Council is working in partnership with Wild in Art, one of the leading creative producers of spectacular, mass-appeal public art events that have benefited businesses in cities across the UK and beyond - including Sydney, Melbourne, Cape Town and São Paulo. Now it's Nottingham's turn!

Hart’s signs up for Hoodwinked

Hart’s restaurant and hotel is amongst the first businesses to sponsor a Hoodwinked sculpture.

Owner Tim Hart signed up immediately after attending the official launch event and hearing about the plans. He said: “I knew straight away that I wanted to support this exciting project, which has the potential to bring so many benefits to Nottingham next summer.

“Similar initiatives in other locations have been shown to attract many visitors and do a great job of showcasing those hidden gems that exist, often right on our doorsteps. I’m very much looking forward to being involved and seeing the trail develop.”

Adam Worthington, General Manager of Hart’s Nottingham, is pictured with the first two sculptures to be unveiled.

Artists needed!

Artists from Nottingham and across the country are already sending in a whole flock of imaginative designs for Hoodwinked robins.  If you are an artist with a bright idea, please download the artists' pack from the Hoodwinked website to see how to get involved.  The closing date for designs is 30 January 2018.

We are looking for a variety of designs, some illustrating aspects of Nottingham, its attractions and history. For example, artists may be inspired by lace, literature, local myths and tales, the dialect, our architecture, Goose Fair, industry, local heroes, sports or sporting legends, or by aspects of our modern multi-cultural city. Or perhaps you have a better idea?

We welcome designs in any art form – traditional to new media, fine art to illustrations, street art and mosaic. Whatever the art form, we’re keen to add drama, fun and a creative flourish to the Hoodwinked sculpture trail.

The robin holds a particular significance in supporting the work of our charity partner, Nottinghamshire Hospice, as it symbolises hope after the passing of a loved one. This cheeky chappy also captures the mischievous spirit of Robin Hood, and we’re sure he will wing his way into the affections of people far and wide.
