Nottingham City Council - proud to present great events

The Nottingham October festival will get off to a great start on Friday 29 September with the first event in The Magnificent Spiegeltent in the Old Market Square.

The opening night in the ornate and historical venue will be The Gilded Merkin Burlesque and Cabaret, followed by a range of music, comedy, magic and other entertainment for all ages until Sunday 8 October. 

Highlights include Angelo Starr and the Team Edwin Starr Band, performing Motown and Northern soul hits, and Royal Vauxhall, an Edinburgh Fringe comedy based on a true story featuring Princess Diana, Kenny Everett and Freddie Mercury.  Check out the website and get booking as some shows have already sold out!

The Nottingham October festival is a series of events in the city this autumn also including Goose Fair, a Beer & Curry Weekend, the Robin Hood Pageant, Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night. 


Goose Fair: 4–8 October

For four days in the first week of October, the Forest Recreation Ground becomes the place to enjoy over 500 attractions, the latest white knuckle experiences, family rides and classic favourites, not forgetting the ever-famous mushy peas, candy floss and brandy snaps.  

So make sure Goose Fair is in the diary and come and enjoy some good old-fashioned family fun!


Robin Hood Pageant: 21–22 October

Join Robin Hood, his Merry Men, the Sheriff of Nottingham and a whole host of colourful characters in this immersive live experience.  Be transported back in time as the Castle grounds are transformed into a Medieval village encampment with all the sights, sounds and smells of 12th century Nottingham.  Try your hand at archery and watch a spectacular show of jousting knights and horseback sword fighting.

Nottingham Oktoberfest: 25–29 October

Nottingham Oktoberfest is about much more than German beer. It’s about getting together with colleagues, clients and friends and enjoying the unbelievable Oktoberfest atmosphere!

Impractical Jokers: 11 October

The American comedy sensations behind the hit TV Show Impractical Jokers, The Tenderloins, bring ‘Where’s Larry?’ to our shores this October for 10 must see dates stopping off at the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham on 11 October 2017. The Tenderloins are a New York-based comedy troupe, whose four members – Joe Gatto, James Murray, Brian Quinn and Sal Vulcano – are the creators, executive producers, and stars of truTV’s hit series, Impractical Jokers.

Derby Feste: 29–30 September

Looking further afield, Derby Festé returns this weekend (Friday 29 and Saturday 30 September) transforming Derby into a playground with performances for the whole family to enjoy.

World Circus brings a sprinkling of magic on the Friday, while there will be free entertainment for the whole family, including live music, circus performances, dance and super heroes, on the Saturday, finishing with The Colour of Time procession plus 100 dancers performing under a canopy of lanterns and a night market.

Smile, The Musical: 10–12 October

Smile

SMILE is a delightful musical adventure for children aged 3 to 5 years and their families and based on the book "Augustus and His Smile" written and illustrated by Catherine Rayner.

Told through magical, theatrical chamber music and performed by exceptional musicians, Smile takes the audience on a delightful musical adventure. 

Showing at Central Library, Nottingham 10:30 - 11:15am, it's for children aged 3 – 5 years and their families.

Dinosaurs of China: open until 29 October

There's just over 4 weeks left to visit Dinosaurs of China, Ground Shakers to Feathered Flyers at Wollaton Hall, so if you've still not got around to booking your tickets, then don't delay! as this "once in a lifetime" exhibition will soon be heading back home to China!


Home Library Service Volunteer Day: 3 October

Home Library Service

Do you have some spare time and want to give something back to your community?  Nottingham City Council's Home Library Service is looking for volunteers to help deliver its free service for people who love to read but are unable to visit a library. 

Register your interest here or call in to the Cecil Roberts Room at Central Library, Long Row on Tuesday 3 October between 2 and 4pm for a chat
