The Heart of Wollaton

Welcome to the second Wollaton Arts Festival, running from Saturday 1 July to Sunday 16 July.

This year’s festival includes activities for all the family, including music, social events, poetry, heritage tours and craft workshops. Details and booking information can be found in the Wollaton Arts Festival brochure.

The motto of the festival is 'By the community, for the community.' It's run by a local committee kindly supported by Nottingham City Council and the Big Lottery Fund. We hope to see you at some of the events!

Join us for the official launch!

Wollaton Arts Festival will be launched officially on Saturday 1 July at 11am in the courtyard at Wollaton Hall. Drop by to help us celebrate! Councillor Georgina Culley will officially open the festival, and then there will be free drinks and snacks.

Take the opportunity to admire the display of prizewinning paintings and photos by people who live or go to school in Wollaton, as well as artwork created by children specially for this year's festival.

Have you visited some of the interesting places on our doorstep?

Step back in time at Wollaton Village Dovecote Museum, open from 2pm to 4.30pm on Sunday 2 July, Saturday 8 July and Sunday 9 July. The exhibition is on the theme of ‘Wollaton Village to Suburb’ and there will also be a display of Tudor costumes.

Jubilee Campus of the University of Nottingham is a green oasis open to all. Join Loran Tapping for a free photography workshop on this beautiful Green Flag award-winning site on Friday 7 July from 5.30 to 7.30pm. Booking details are in the Wollaton Arts Festival brochure

Get creative!

Fancy trying a new creative hobby? Sign up for some of the workshops running throughout the festival, for just £3 each - such as pompoms, mosaic coasters, card-making, origami flowers, spoon puppets, glass fusing, jewellery making and willow-weaving. Brighten up your social life!

Events during the festival include:

Monday 3 July – an evening of poetry and music at Wollaton Cricket Club. Join us to showcase your passion for poetry or to ignite your love for beautiful literature.

Saturday 8 July – The Beggars’ Banquet at Wollaton Park Community Centre, Harrow Road. A Victorian-themed evening for all the family, featuring live music, fun, games and food, including a hog roast. Victorian dress positively encouraged! Tickets £7 for adults and £5 for children, available from lylse-anne.renwick@nottinghamcity.gov.uk or by calling 0115 8764488.

The Big Picnic – Sunday 16 July

The grand finale of Wollaton Arts Festival will be a ‘bring and share’ Big Picnic on Wollaton Park with free entertainment, activities and fun from 12 noon to 6pm.

Music will include jazz from Schmorgan, a beatnik-jazz enthused ensemble; Encore Performing Arts Choir; Rock Choir; Stagecoach Beeston Choir and Nottingham Asian Arts Academy Dohl Drummers.

Join in with lots of free activities – including spin art bike, a tie-dye workshop, kite-making, bling up your bike, a treasure trail and a Teddy Bears’ Picnic. Help to create a large tree where you can leave a message about the festival!

At 5pm, prizes will be presented to the Art and Photography Competition winners.

Bake Off

Searching for Wollaton’s star baker, we invite you to bake a cake – whether a longstanding family favourite or a daredevil showstopper!

Cakes must be entered by 3pm at the Big Picnic on Wollaton Park on Sunday 16 July, and winners will be announced at 5pm.

All cakes will be raffled to raise money towards the festival activities.

And finally.....The Admiral’s new jacket!

Have you spotted the four wicker sculptures displayed in Wollaton as part of the Arts Festival celebrations? There are three to see at Bramcote Lane shops, and this jacket at the Village Pump. They were planted by Nottingham City Council’s Nursery team at Woodthorpe Park.
