Hi, may I take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year. As portfolio holder for Growth and Transport I am keen to ensure that all local people and businesses are fully informed on the latest monthly low carbon transport developments taking place in Nottingham. This month sees the start of an exciting and busy 2017. We update you with stories about some upcoming events that you can take part in, a reminder of the changes to the electric bus services and an update on the Charge Point project procurement.

Clean Air Zone Business Networking

Nottingham City Council, in partnership with Cenex, will be hosting a free-to-attend evening Clean Air Zone Networking Drinks Reception on Tuesday 7th February 2017 at Nottingham Contemporary.

The event is targeted at anyone from the public or private sector who operates vehicles in and around Nottingham and will provide opportunities to network with fellow fleet and vehicle operators, as well as representatives from the Council, to discuss the various issues and opportunities that the Clean Air Zone will pose for local businesses and logistics operators. This event will provide support and advice on how best to prepare for changes, and offer opportunities to share best practice and learning.

A business card and knowledge exchange will also take place throughout the event.

Go Ultra Low Nottingham & Intu Partnership Event

Nottingham City Council, in partnership with intu, are hosting an EV (electric vehicle) public engagement and test drive event on Friday 24th & Saturday 25th February 2017 at Nottingham's intu Victoria Centre. The event will be located outside John Lewis on the lower mall. This event is the first of our 2017 Go Ultra Low promotions, showcasing electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Visitors to intu Victoria Centre will also have the chance to test drive a low emission vehicle on Level 6 of the multi storey car park.

We encourage you to attend, meet members of the Go Ultra Low team, discover more about Ultra Low Emission Vehicles (ULEVs) and how you can make the change to Go Ultra Low!

Nottingham Light Night Event

Go Ultra Low Nottingham will be attending the annual Light Night event in Nottingham’s Old Market Square on Friday 10th February 2017 between 6pm and 9 pm.

Nottingham Light Night Event provides an annual community engagement in the city of Nottingham providing activities and events. The Go Ultra Low Nottingham team will be there on the night promoting the project activities so come and have a chat with a colleague.

As part of Nottingham Light Night, the general public will be able to discuss the myths of owning an EV by taking part in a myth busting challenge to help stamp out the myths and concerns of owning or leasing an EV. Come down and enjoy the fun at Nottingham’s Light Night event!

All change for the Electric Bus fleet

You may already be aware of the the launch of the 13 new electric BYD buses now in operation. However, there are still new changes to come from Monday 30th January 2017! A new direct service now called the CentreLink Park and Ride service operated by Nottingham Community Transport will run between the Queens Drive Park and Ride Ecohub, Meadows Way and the Nottingham Railway Station to the city centre, terminating at Victoria Bus Station.

There will be a new Nottingham City Transport Navy Line 49 that will operate between Boots Factory, Thane Road, Electric Avenue, Queens Drive, NG2 Business Park and the Nottingham Railway Station and the city centre. Buses will terminate along with other Navy Line buses in the Old Market Square.

The CityLink 2 will be renamed the Ecolink and will be operated by electric buses. There will be a slight alteration to the route with upon returning to the city centre as it will turn left at Pennyfoot Street on to Bellargate.

All services will commence inclusive of the new changes on 30th January 2017. To find out more please click here

Nottingham Charge Point Procurement Launched

Significant developments to the Go Ultra Low Nottingham Charge Point Network Project have commenced. A key element is the roll out of a publicly accessible electric vehicle charging network, and just before Christmas 2016, Nottingham took another important step closer to getting the charge points in the ground with the launch of the formal procurement process.

Charge Point operators now have the opportunity to respond to the first stage of the procurement. The closing date is 17th January 2017. Bids will be assessed and a maximum of six bidders will be taken forward to the Invitation to Tender stage.

Following evaluations of final tenders we are aiming to be in a position to award the contract in May 2017.

The LEVEL project will be hosting the Hydrogen Transport Technology Conference on Wednesday 1st February 2017 between 9.30 am - 4.00 pm at the Nottingham Sustainability & Enterprise Centre. The event will provide an overview of current industry developments in hydrogen transport technologies and infrastructure with talks from many industry experts including Toyota, ITM Power, Intelligent Energy and Cenex.

Topics covered include case studies of deployment in car, bus and commercial vehicles, development of hydrogen refueling infrastructure, fuel cell technology development, vehicle performance data, training of personnel to support hydrogen powered vehicles in the UK fleet and future funding opportunities.
