Join our Nottingham Clean Champions scheme and help us
keep your neighbourhood clean!
Whether you are a community group, church group,
business, school, tenants and residents association, or an individual – this
scheme will support you to make a positive difference in your neighbourhood.
Our
handy Nottingham Clean Champions welcome pack will provide you with:
- Advice
on reporting issues in your neighbourhood
- Information
on how you can help us support new neighbours to get bin collection calendars
and recycling guides

range of equipment if you wish to carry out litter picking in your
neighbourhood
As part of the scheme, Nottingham City Council will keep
you up to date on activities from our Nottingham Clean Champions and how their
work is benefiting neighbourhoods.
To help others appreciate the work that you do and be
encouraged to make changes themselves, we will also formally recognise your
support by erecting an ‘Adopt A Street’ sign in your neighbourhood to show the
street has been adopted by Nottingham Clean Champions.
Nottingham Clean Champions is an informal scheme to
support you to make small changes in your neighbourhood. It can support work
you are doing as part of an already formed group, organisation or as an
individual.
Any reporting or litter picking can be done at your own
leisure; we do not expect you to follow any set schedule or requirements.

A quick reminder that your garden waste collections will be suspended at the end of October until April 2017.
After this time you can continue to recycle your garden
waste at the Household Waste and Recycling Centre in Lenton (near the
Showcase Cinema) or you can compost your garden waste and turn it into
environmentally friendly fertiliser to use on your garden in the spring.

 A new anti-litter project has been launched in Nottingham which encourages cleaner streets and also benefits local charities and good causes.
Nottingham City Council has joined forces with environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy and The Wrigley Company in a bid to keep the areas around Bulwell Market Place cleaner.
Nottingham City Council is taking part in the three-month project, which started on Monday 19 September, where litter bins have been transformed into charity collection pots, featuring a new local charity or cause each month.
After engagement with residents in Bulwell, the chosen charities are:
- Bulwell Forest Garden
- Bulwell Toy Library
- Bulwell Forest Football Club.
The more litter that goes into the bins and the less on the ground, the more money the featured charity of the month will receive! So if you live or visit Bulwell, make sure you put any litter in the bins and help local charities!
 Nottingham City Council is working with Recycle Now to encourage residents to recycle more plastics bottles around the home following news that nationally households only recycle half of the
ones they use.
We know that a lot of people are
recycling their plastic bottles a lot of the time, which is great! But these
figures show that clearly there’s a lot more we can do. Some people may not
realise how much of a difference they can make by recycling something as simple
as a plastic bottle. They can be transformed again and again into not just more
plastic bottles but in actual fact a huge number of items: from football shirts
to picnic benches and fleece tops. It also reduces the amount being wasted and
not being given a second life, which in turn is good for the environment.
Got the recycling bug? Be
fantastic with your plastic recycling!
Here are a few tips
to ensure you can confidently recycle all your plastic bottles:
- Firstly,
make sure the bottles are empty;
- Give them
a quick rinse (no need to remove labels though);
- Squash
the bottles to save space in your recycling bin
- If you’re
on the go; pop your plastic bottle in a bag and recycle it when you get home
rather than chucking it in a waste bin.
And the fun needn’t
stop at the usual suspects like fizzy drinks and milk bottles either. You may
not realise that there are a huge number of plastic bottles and containers from
around your home that can be recycled, including:
- Shampoo bottles
- Hand soap dispensers
- Bathroom/kitchen cleaner bottles
- Bleach bottles
- Washing up liquid bottles
