Olympic medallist Rebecca Adlington, Disney, the Amateur Swimming Association and Nottingham City Council have joined forces to encourage children to ‘Just keep moving’ this summer with interactive family swim sessions inspired by the new Disney•Pixar blockbuster, Finding Dory.
The swimming sessions, during the school summer holidays, with toys, storytelling and special activities, will take place at least once a week at all seven council pools until Sunday 4 September. Trained session leaders will deliver a range of fun Finding Dory-inspired activities.
The long summer break is here and Nottingham City Council has lots of exciting events planned to keep children and teenagers active and give families good value and rewarding activities every week of the school holidays. Some are part of an extra programme put on especially for the summer period but many of the activities are actually run all year round by Nottingham City Council’s Play and Youth teams.

Nottingham City Libraries are calling for children to sign up to read six books this summer as part of The Big Friendly Read, Summer Reading Challenge 2016.
The Summer Reading Challenge asks 4-11 year olds to borrow and read any six library books over the summer. It has a new theme each year and in 2016 the Challenge is delivered in collaboration with The Roald Dahl Literary Estate to celebrate 100 years of the world’s favourite storyteller.
Nottingham City Council will be out and about visiting local communities during August, speaking to local families and telling them about a whole range of useful and often free services available to them.
One of the aims of the activity is to raise awareness of free childcare places for two year olds, a national scheme which aims to help parents get back to work and training sooner by giving them access to free quality childcare.
Public health experts are reminding parents, carers and grandparents to remember the importance of safer sleeping for babies during the summer holidays.
Risks increase significantly at this time of year as families spend longer periods of time away from home and sleeping routines change.
