The latest news from Nottingham in Bloom - working with the community to create a greener and cleaner city for everyone to enjoy
My Beautiful Nottingham
If you live, work or go to school in Nottingham, remember to snap some photos of local green and pleasant places and enter the 'My Beautiful Nottingham' photo competition, which is sponsored by Capital One. The deadline is May 13th, and there's no limit to the number of entries you can submit.
Children are also invited to send in paintings of their neighbourhood.
Some areas will also run local competitions after the citywide judging is complete, so you could be in a second chance of a prize. Good luck!
Students can also enter their own 'Nottingham in Bloom' photo competition, sponsored by the University of Nottingham, with a closing date of May 20th. Look out for some of the best entries on display at The Place to Eat at John Lewis Nottingham during June and July. Send entries to bloom@nottinghamcity.gov.uk
It's Your Neighbourhood - time to sign up
If your street or community space is blooming, why not sign up to enter the Royal Horticultural Society's 'It's Your Neighbourhood' awards?
These non-competitive awards celebrate the work of people who are working with their neighbours and friends to make their area a greener and cleaner place to live. Each group will be awarded a certificate to acknowledge their efforts, presented at a citywide event in the autumn. Contact bloom@nottinghamcity.gov.uk for more information.
'It's Your Neighbourhood' supports the RHS 'Greening Grey Britain' campaign.
The
St Ann’s in Bloom campaign celebrates St Ann’s as a blooming great place to
live!
There
are lots of ways for local people to get involved in brightening up the neighbourhood, including various
garden competitions for residents and businesses – closing date at the end of June. Some of the entries will also be featured on a
special gardens tour on Sunday July 17th.
St Ann's in Bloom has been supported with a grant from the Nottingham City Homes Ten Year Anniversary Fund.
Have you visited the plant shop next door to Nottingham City Council's Nursery at Woodthorpe Park? Opening hours are 9-3 from Monday to Saturday, 10-4 on Sunday, and it will also be open on Bank Holiday Monday. Our friendly team are happy to provide expert horticultural advice.
A date for the diary: the popular Grow Your Own event will be held at the Nursery at Woodthorpe Park from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 10 September, with stalls, free workshops and activities for all the family. The event will also feature Notts Beekeepers' annual honey show.
Please note there will be no open day at the Nursery in May this year.
