Today's Forecast

Largely cloudy into the afternoon with a band of showers moving south across the the area. These clearing the the county by around 1600, and may perhaps turn briefly to sleet over the highest ground at times. The remainder of the afternoon and evening will be breezy but mostly dry with long clear spells.

Overnight, it will remain largely dry and clear allowing RSTs to drop widely close to freezing. Generally the risk of ice is low, but there is the small risk of an isolated shower, and these showers would fall as sleet or snow. Overnight some slight and largely temporary accumulations of 0-1 cm are possible to all levels in any very isolated showers. Any further accumulations after 0700 are expected to be short-lived and generally negligible. Any ice or lying snow is expected to thaw rapidly as temperatures rise from around 0700. But further isolated wintry showers of sleet, wet snow and soft hail expected through the morning, interspersed by sunshine with the fresh winds continuing.

A continuation of clear/sunny intervals and wintry showers of rain, wet snow and hail are expected through tomorrow afternoon and overnight into Wednesday morning. No accumulations of snow are expected.

Further wintry showers are expected through Wednesday afternoon with the potential for a more prolonged period of showery rain, sleet and wet snow overnight and at first on Thursday with a low risk of localised accumulations of a few centimetres.

It will remain cold with temperatures significantly below average for late April. There is only low confidence regarding any detail but on balance, it looks set to remain unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain interspersed by drier and clearer spells. There is still a low risk of showers turning to sleet mostly during the latter part of the overnight periods. There is also a continued likelihood of fairly widespread overnight frosts.
