Easter fun for all the family

There are plenty of opportunities coming up over the Easter school holidays to burn off all those chocolates and sweet treats.

A variety of activities for the whole family are taking place at a number of locations around Nottingham, including the Castle, Wollaton and Highfields Park.

Alongside these events, there will be something for everyone at the city's eight Play & Youth Centres and 18 Children’s Centres. They offer a range of free and low-cost services and activities for families and their children.

rally

Could you Rally Round someone in need of care?

A free online service in Nottingham is helping people to stay in their homes for longer, improve health and wellbeing, and reduce isolation.

Rally Round allows a network to be created around a person with care needs. Anything that the person needs help with can be listed as a task and trusted friends, family members, neighbours or staff involved in their care can see this, discuss it, agree to take it on and let everyone know when it has been done.

Rally Round helps share the load jobs can be anything from doing the shopping, helping someone getting out and about, changing a lightbulb, keeping appointments or tidying the garden.

It is a simple idea. A co-ordinator, who is usually the main carer for the person being rallied around, invites family, friends and volunteers into a private support network where jobs are listed. Everyone in a support network can see what jobs are waiting for volunteers, what jobs they and others have already offered to do, and jobs that have been completed.

emergency

Please use A&E only in emergency

Nottingham University Hospitals Trust is asking people to only go to A&E if it’s a real emergency.

The Trust says the emergency department at Queen's Medical Centre has been busy for several days over Easter and services are under extreme pressure.

Nottingham people are now being asked to help relieve the pressure on services by only using A&E if they really need to. The advice is to choose walk-in centres and minor injury units or pharmacists in the community for minor injury or illness advice. People can also call 111 for help over the phone.

By choosing the right service, patients are helping the hospital to treat people who need emergency care as quickly as possible.

Do you know how babies should sleep safely?

Nottingham City Council backed a week-long national campaign to highlight safer sleeping practices for babies.

The Lullaby Trust's Safer Sleep Week 2016 urged parents to remember the importance of ensuring their infants were placed down to sleep safely, both overnight and during daytime naps.

The City Council teamed up with Nottinghamshire County Council to support the awareness-raising campaign.

Around the country, almost 300 babies die unexpectedly every year and many of these tragedies could be prevented if all parents followed the evidence-based, safer sleep advice.
