Local suppliers flock to meet with construction buyers in Nottingham

GA

More than 100 Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire SME construction businesses take advantage of the opportunity to have a one to one meeting with key buyers of construction services.   Buyers such as Willmott Dixon, GF Tomlinson, Wates, Nottingham City Homes, Efficiency East Midlands, Fairgrove Homes and Robert Woodhead were all keen to meet with local businesses to help deliver key contracts over the next 12 months.  The hugely successful event was arranged in partnership with NCN College and was opened by Graham Allen MP for Nottingham North at the brand new Nottingham Sustainability and Enterprise Centre at Basford Hall

Social value was the buzzword at the event.  Price, service and reputation are all elements of a competitive tender that separate those that secure the deal from those that are unsuccessful.  However, a key area that principal contractors and buyers are judging tenders by are the commitments made to support the agreed social value KPIs of the development.  Apprenticeships, traineeships, training of existing employees, work experience opportunities and jobs for local people, graduate placements, internships and school interventions, these are all areas where the suppliers can add value to their proposals.

The support available through the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Joint Investment Strategy offers local construction businesses the unique opportunity of an off-the-shelf social value package. Businesses located across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire region can up-skill their existing employees with courses available from an extensive range of fully funded construction related leadership and management courses.  Businesses located across the Greater Nottingham City region can also host pre-trained work experience placements at no cost and take advantage of a £2,500 employment grant for the recruitment of an unemployed Nottingham City resident into a construction related position.  All of which are measurable social value added KPIs that enhance a sub-contractor’s offer to a principal contractor.

See below list of courses and details about the recruitment support available through the Joint Investment Strategy.
