Swimmers take the plunge into new era
The next
generation of home-grown Olympic swimmers are training using state-of-the-art
facilities at the new Harvey Hadden Sports Village, ahead of Beechdale Swimming
Centre closing its doors to the public on Friday 28 August.
Beechdale has
played its part in the success stories of Olympic Gold Medallist Rebecca
Adlington and Paralympic Gold Medallists Sam and Ollie Hynd – but as one of the
oldest leisure facilities owned by the City Council, it no longer meets the
needs and expectations of customers.
As part of
the City Council’s commitment to delivering improvements in the quality of its
Leisure Centre network, local residents will be able to use the fantastic new
facilities at Harvey Hadden Sports Village when it opens on 1 September – less
than two miles away. From 3 August Beechdale will reduce its weekly operating
hours to 12noon – 8pm. More information at www.mynottinghamnews.com/swimmers-take-the-plunge-into-new-era/
British Cycling test new cycle circuit
A
1.5km closed road cycling circuit is part of the redeveloped Harvey Hadden
Sports Village, funded through Sport England’s Iconic Facilities fund plus a
financial contribution from British Cycling. The track will be open to all
levels of cyclists from beginners to elite riders.
British
Cycling carried out their final inspection for the Cycle Circuit last week and
even took the opportunity to be the first to go round and test the facility.
The inspection was well received and British Cycling were very positive about
the track and the impact it can have on cycling in the city.
Cycling Courses
Twelve youngsters learnt vital road skills on the new closed road circuit during the first Holiday Coaching Programme for 8-16 year olds, delivered by British Cycling. A range of development courses will be run on the circuit throughout the year including sessions for women and girls.
The next Juniors’ session will take place on the 17 August 10am – 3pm, and the first women’s and girls’ session will take place on the 20 August 6.30pm –8.30pm. To book on these courses, visit the links below:

Over the last
month we have been busy testing the facilities hosting Nottingham’s first ever
Super Saturday Fight Klub event and the Amateur Swimming Association Summer
Gala. Both events were a success with really positive feedback from the
organisers. Clubs who previously used Beechdale Swimming Centre have taken
the opportunity to test out the pool space having recently transferred to
Harvey Hadden.
“All
comments and/or feedback the committee has received from the membership is very
positive and we the committee concur the facility is indeed marvellous.”Scubanauts
“Moving
to Harvey Hadden is amazing and is inspiring a new generation of competitive
swimmers. We have the advantage of being able to train with the pool at 50m
length in the mornings and have a great 25m pool in the evenings. The poolside
is bigger which helps with before pool and after pool landwork exercises, and
the whole place is exciting to be in.”Josie Grange, Nova Centurion
