Our housing team employs several strategies to prevent single people, couples and families from becoming homeless in the first place.

Residents in areas under review have until 20 February 2025 to cast their vote on the draft proposals. We’re consulting on:
- Creating new parish councils in Ashtead, Box Hill, Dorking, Fetcham, Leatherhead, Westcott and Westhumble
- Adjusting parish boundaries in Brockham, Headley and Holmwood
- No changes for the remaining areas of Mole Valley
All residents will receive information about the draft recommendations. All households in areas where a change is being proposed will have already, or soon will, receive ballot packs, including frequently asked questions to help residents make an informed decision.
The final decision on the recommendations will be made by Full Council in early March.

Correctly Disposing of Hazardous Items
These butane and nitrous oxide canisters caused a fire to break out earlier this month in a recycling truck in Leatherhead. Some unused fireworks were also found. Fortunately nobody was injured and Surrey Fire and Rescue were able to put out the flames. Keep collection crews and recycling facilities staff safe by:
- Always taking hazardous items such as gas canisters to either Dorking Community Recycling Centre or Leatherhead Community Recycling Centre
- Or, check with the company that sold them to you as they should be able to collect for disposal
- Never place unused fireworks in bins, they ignite easily. Used fireworks must be soaked for 48 hours before placing in the rubbish bin

 ** Third Party Advert **
London Gatwick is consulting on the future operation of Route 4 - one of the departure routes for aircraft flying out of the Airport. Route 4 takes off to the west of the airport, before turning 180 degrees northwards, and then heading east in the vicinity of South Holmwood, Leigh and then out over the district to Redhill and Reigate, before flying on towards their destination. Please note, this is a separate matter to the plans for the Gatwick Northern Runway plans and its expansion plans.
London Gatwick is seeking feedback from the public and stakeholders on the shortlisted route options and their potential impacts and benefits including safety, noise, overflight, tranquillity, emissions and habitats impacts. Have your say before 11:59pm on Tuesday 28 April 2026.

Last year, the government decided Surrey’s district, borough and county councils should reorganise into East and West Unitary Surrey Councils from April 2027. A key milestone in the reorganisation process has been reached, with some local councillors coming together for the first time as committees to lay the foundations for the transition.
The East Surrey Voluntary Joint Committee met on Thursday 15 January at Surrey County Council's office in Reigate, and the West Surrey Voluntary Joint Committee gathered on Friday 16 January at Woking Borough Council. Both committees will now meet monthly until shadow authorities are formed after May's elections.

Future Surrey is a temporary brand developed by ourselves, the ten other district and borough councils, and the county council. A Future Surrey website has been created as a single trusted place residents and businesses can visit for information about upcoming changes in Surrey through devolution and Local Government Reorganisation. For now, it is important to know that nothing changes in the way you receive services. You'll continue using the same contacts, buildings and online services until April 2027.

Residents in Ashtead may have spotted that we recently created two new shallow seasonal ponds at Woodfield. Seasonal ponds fill with water in winter months and dry out in warmer months, preventing fish from living there. This makes the habitat safer for amphibians and insects, helping a wider range of plants and animals thrive, thereby increasing the biodiversity.
After recent rainfall, our new ponds are developing well and holding water. We are also exploring further holding areas of water to try and address the issue of standing water on the footpath during very wet spells. Read more about what else we're doing as part of our Climate Change Action Plan and Biodiversity Strategy on our Sustainable Mole Valley website.

Applications to our Neighbourhood Fund can be made at any time of year for projects delivering new infrastructure - or maintaining what already exists in the district - to help address pressures brought about by new housing developments in Mole Valley. Past successful bids have resulted in some impressive community-led projects, including community buildings being refurbished, a new playground being built and new sports equipment for clubs. Check out how much money is available in your local area's pot!

We are inviting views as to what the existing Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) at Kingston Road Recreation Ground in Leatherhead could look like in the future and whether it should be renewed for a third time. The PSPO, which addresses anti-social behaviour, anti-social drinking and drug taking, will come to the end of its three-year term in April 2026.
We want to know what residents, businesses and visitors to this open space think about how effective the PSPO has been, what it should include in the future and, if it were to be renewed, how long for. Our five-week consultation closes on Monday 16 February 2026.

From 1 January 2026, children started to be offered the MMRV vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella and varicella/chickenpox) instead of the MMR vaccine, as part of the routine childhood immunisation schedule.
This means children will receive protection against four diseases, instead of three. The introduction of this vaccine will help protect children from serious complications and help reduce hospital admissions.
