Walk-in COVID-19 vaccinations
Anyone in MK aged 18 or over who has yet to have their first COVID-19 vaccination is now welcome to walk in to the Saxon Court vaccination centre (1 Saxon Gate East, MK9 3EJ).
There’s no need to book, just bring your NHS number with you if you know it (don’t worry if you don’t, it just takes slightly longer).
Walk-in appointments are available between 9am and 3pm today (Friday), tomorrow and Sunday. Next week’s walk-in availability will be published early next week at www.blmkccg.nhs.uk/covid-19/.
Anyone who has already booked an appointment at a vaccination centre, GP-led site or pharmacy should attend their booked appointment as planned instead of walking in.
If you have any symptoms of COVID-19 please don’t attend any vaccination centre but instead self-isolate and get a test.
New symptoms of Delta variant
A headache, sore throat and runny nose are now the most commonly-reported symptoms linked to COVID-19 infection in the UK, researchers say.
Prof Tim Spector, who runs the Zoe Covid Symptom study, says catching the Delta variant can feel "more like a bad cold" for younger people, which means they might disregard the symptoms and put others at risk as they go about their usual business.
The change appears linked to the rise in the Delta variant, first identified in India and now accounting for 90% of Covid cases in the UK.
If you have COVID-19 symptoms, however minor, please err on the safe side by isolating and getting a test.
Lifting of restrictions
The final lifting of COVID-19 restrictions is currently scheduled for 19 July, subject to review.
However, a few restrictions have already been eased:
- People can meet outdoors in groups of up to 30.
- People can meet indoors in groups of six, or with one other household.
- Domestic overnight stays allowed in groups of up to six people or two households.
- Social distancing with family and friends is now a matter of personal judgement - although caution is advised.
- The number of guests at a wedding is no longer limited to 30, but guests must be seated in tables of six or below.
- Care home residents do not necessarily have to self-isolate if they go on a trip out of the home.
- Children can go on overnight trips in groups of 30.
- Large events pilots will also continue, including more Euro 2020 games.
COVID-19 vaccines are being offered to:
- people aged 25 and over
- people who will turn 25 before 1 July 2021
- people at high risk from COVID-19 (clinically extremely vulnerable)
- people with a condition that puts them at higher risk (clinically vulnerable)
- people with a learning disability

New MK Response Volunteer Scheme
The COVID Champion scheme will end today and all COVID-19 updates will now be part of Milton Keynes Council’s regular e-alerts. The champion email address CovidChampions@Milton-Keynes.gov.uk will remain in place and we will continue to answer any questions you may have about the vaccination.
We were delighted to see how much support there has been for the COVID Champion scheme, and hope that you may be interested in a new volunteer scheme called MK Response Volunteers. We are looking for residents who are willing to help in a range of situations. This could be to help respond to an emergency event like flooding or evacuations, or to support large sporting events in Milton Keynes. It would also involve alerting the Emergency Planning Team to issues in your local area.
If you would like to find out more about this new scheme please complete this short questionnaire: MK Response Volunteer Questionnaire
If we do not hear from you by the end of July your contact details shared with us for this newsletter will be deleted in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018.
In the meantime, we would like to take the opportunity to express our sincere gratitude for your involvement as a COVID Champion. Thanks to you the newsletter reached over half the Milton Keynes population, providing guidance, support and hopefully some reassurance in such a difficult period.
To print and share this, please click "view it as a web page" at the top of this bulletin. This will take you to a web page with the option to print this off at the top.
To share this newsletter on social media sites such as Facebook, please visit our COVID-19 Community Champions website www.milton-keynes.gov.uk/covid-champions where you will find links to this update and previous ones at the bottom of the page. Just copy and paste the link.
