Dear Partner

We invite you to help improve the safety of medicines and healthcare products by liking, sharing and reposting MHRA social media posts during our eighth annual #MedSafetyWeek campaign next week (6 - 12 November 2023).

#MedSafetyWeek is developed by the Uppsala Monitoring Centre and is supported in the UK by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). It forms part of international efforts to raise awareness about the importance of reporting suspected side effects to medicines via national reporting systems, which in the UK is the MHRA Yellow Card scheme. This year regulators from 88 countries will take part.

The campaign theme is “who can report”. Throughout the week, we will post light-hearted social media animations to show patients, healthcare providers and pharmacists reporting suspected side effects as soon as they happen, to help improve safety for future patients.

Whilst the focus is on the importance of reporting suspected side effects to medicines, the MHRA also encourages the reporting of safety concerns with vaccines, medical devices and other healthcare products to the Yellow Card scheme and local reporting systems.

Please support the promotion of this important public health messageshare, like and repost the MHRA social media posts between 6 - 12 November. Every report helps the MHRA identify and respond to safety issues.

See our October Drug Safety Update for more information about this campaign, which you can also use as copy in your newsletters or to engage with your stakeholders.

Visit our Yellow Card scheme website to download #MedSafetyWeek banners for your email and social media accounts (Facebook, X [Twitter], Linkedin). And please use our poster and digital screen at appropriate events, meetings or in your workplace, to help spread awareness about the importance of reporting suspected problems with healthcare products.

You can also find more information on MedSafetyWeek on the Uppsala Monitoring Centre’s website.

If you have any questions about the campaign, please email yellow.card@mhra.gov.uk.

Thank you for your support and best wishes,

MHRA Yellow Card team
