Malvern Hills District Council

now in no overall control

No single political party or group is in control of Malvern Hills District Council following the counting of votes cast in local elections held on Thursday, 2 May 2019.

The Conservatives were in control of the Council and while they remain the largest party, they no longer have enough councillors to command an outright majority on their own.

The new make up of the Council is as follows:

Conservatives: 13

Independents: 10

Liberal Democrats: 9

Green Party: 5

Labour: 1

Total: 38

Detailed results for each Ward are available to view here.

The new Leader, Deputy Leader and Chairman of Malvern Hills District Council will be elected at the Annual Council meeting on Tuesday, 14 May 2019. Agenda here.

Town and parish council elections also took place in Malvern Town Link Ward, Malvern Town North Malvern Ward, Malvern Town Priory Ward, Suckley and Wichenford. Results can be viewed here.

Elections were not held in a number of parish and town councils due to a lack of candidates standing. These were uncontested and those put forward as nominations elected unopposed. You can find full details of uncontested parish and town council elections here.

Public back Malvern Town Neighbourhood Plan

The public has backed the Malvern Town Neighbourhood Plan following a referendum held on Thursday, 2 May 2019.

In total 6,539 votes were cast by people living in wards covered by Malvern Town Council - Dyson Perrins, Link, North Malvern, Priory, Pickersleigh and Chase - with 86% in favour of the plan.

The Malvern Town Neighbourhood Plan sets out a vision for the town up to the year 2030. It contains a wide range of policies including the protection of Local Green Spaces and 35 key views, car parking, high quality development, high speed broadband and electric vehicle charging points. The document has been developed by Malvern Town Council over the last four years and has been subject to extensive public consultation as well as examination by an independent planning inspector.

In order for any of the policies to come into force, the Plan had to win the support of 50 per cent or more of the public in a referendum.

The Plan will now go before a future meeting of Malvern Hills District Council for adoption. It can then be used when deciding planning applications.
