Impact of climate change on sport
This time of year sees many major sporting events – The Euros, Wimbledon, the Men's Test Cricket Series and the upcoming Olympic Games - taking place in the UK and around the world. But what impact is climate change having on many of the sports we enjoy?
Throughout July we will be looking at this topic in more detail and will share how sporting organisations and authorities are using climate science to inform adaptation and sustainability action. This aims to support sports communities and individuals to enhance their resilience and be better prepared for future climate risk.

Webinar: CCRA4 Independent Assessment (CCRA4-IA) Technical Report
We warmly invite you to join us in this webinar where we will hear from experts at the Met Office and the Climate Change Committee about the Climate Change Risk Assessment (CCRA) 4th Independent Assessment (CCRA4-IA) Technical Report.
The Technical Report will be delivered in 2026 and will provide an updated assessment of the risks and opportunities from climate change and the potential for adaptation to address them. It will build on the Third Climate Change Risk Assessment (CCRA3-IA).
Meet members of the consortium producing the new assessment and find out how you can get involved to inform the CCRA4-IA Technical Report, followed by a Q&A.
UKNCSP webinar series: Beyond UKCP18 – A community call for evidence
The UK National Climate Science Partnership (UKNCSP) is pleased to invite you to a new webinar series, the purpose of which is to share its plans and progress, and to engage the community concerning opportunities in the development of climate solutions.
In this first seminar, the Joint Directors of UKNCSP will briefly introduce and summarise the goals of the partnership, but the major part of our first seminar in July will be about climate information ‘beyond UKCP18’.
Climate information for both present day and the future has been provided over a number of iterations of the UK Climate Projections, most recently in UKCP18. The Met Office, Defra and partners are reviewing the current UKCP18 products to consider how they will meet evolving user needs over coming years and in the context of the latest developments in climate science. This webinar is an opportunity to hear more about the current thinking around a potential vision for a broader and more usable package of UK Climate Information (UKCI). We also very much want to hear your thoughts, and so we’ll be outlining ways you can become involved in the process of considering the need for and options to deliver any future upgrade.
Professor Jason Lowe (Met Office & University of Leeds) and Dr Carol McSweeney (Met Office) will lead this webinar with contributions from the University of Bristol and National Centre for Atmospheric Science.
