Caring for veterans
All NHS Trusts now have a legal duty to ensure that members of the UK’s armed forces community are not placed at a disadvantage in the healthcare system. This isn’t about giving them priority treatment, but recognising that the Armed Forces Community can be frequently mobile, or have special needs related to their healthcare.
The Armed Forces Community includes anyone who has ever served in the UK’s Armed Forces, such as active service personnel (both full time and reservists), veterans, and their spouses and dependents.
A programme of short learning sessions has been prepared nationally to help colleagues find out more about how to care for veterans. It can be found on ESR by clicking on the following link 000 NHS Healthcare for the Armed Forces: Care of Veterans
