Contact's campaigns
- Is your disabled child entitled to free school meals but missing out? Depending on your family’s circumstances, you may be able to ask the school or local authority to provide an alternative, such as food vouchers or a suitable meal your child can eat. See Contact’s resources, including a simple online flowchart to help you claim.
- There are some encouraging updates on Contact's work around Child Trust Funds and Junior ISAs. The House of Lords has backed an amendment to the Financial Services Act which would create a clear legal framework allowing finance companies to release these funds directly to families. In the meantime, Nationwide has launched new website guidance and a dedicated support team to help parents navigate access to funds.
See Contact’s latest stories about their projects and the disability sector in general. It includes a link to sign up to their weekly newsletter.
Carers' breaks
It’s important for carers to take breaks to avoid burnout and regain the energy necessary to continue caring. You can also read the new Carers’s Breaks strategy which came out of the Time For You consultation.

Support for young siblings
If you are a parent/carer of young siblings, Sibs would love your help. In response to lots of enquiries, they’re developing some new resources, including social stories and colouring sheets for children under 7 with a disabled brother or sister. What has been the hardest thing to explain to your child? Is it disability? Feelings? Different rules at home? If you have suggestions, please let them know using their general contact form.
Tackling the narratives
There have been news headlines, social media posts and TV programmes recently with potentially harmful public narratives. Ann Memmott from Autism Central takes a look - Blog: when autism and ADHD are questioned in the media.
