Over the next 3-5 years, Manchester will be working with UNICEF UK to ensure that the whole of Manchester puts children’s rights into practice. We want to hear the views of children aged up 18 (up to 25 with SEND) to help in the work to become a Child Friendly City where all children and young people feel safe, heard and able to flourish.
Let's make sure we capture the voice of disabled children and young people in Manchester! There's an easy read survey suitable for those with SEND up to the age of 25, plus primary age children. The other version is aimed at 11-18 year olds but they can do they other one too if they prefer. The surveys can be filled out themselves or with the support of a trusted adult. Closes end of September. THANK YOU!
Other ways to have a say
Not everyone likes to do surveys. Responses to the following two questions can be shared with Ali (pictured) from the Local Offer Team by email or over the phone - ali.davenport@manchester.gov.uk, 07971 587963:
- What would a 'Child Friendly City' look like to you?
- What is important to you as a child or young person growing up in Manchester?

Child Friendly Cities and Communities is a UNICEF UK programme that works with councils to put children’s rights into practice. It aims to create cities and communities where all children have a meaningful say in, and truly benefit from, the local decisions, services and spaces that shape their lives.
We’re in the discovery phase, with the Council, communities and children coming together to agree their priorities for an action plan. At a later date, an independent panel will assess the Council’s progress and decide whether to recognise the city as a UNICEF UK child friendly city or community.
The programme is part of Child Friendly Cities – a global UNICEF initiative that reaches close to 30 million children in over 40 countries! Find out more about Our Child Friendly Manchester.

Opportunity with UNICEF
There's an exciting opportunity for young people from across the UK to join UNICEF UK’s Youth Advisory Board. UNICEF are looking for 8 young people between the ages of 14-18 who are passionate about making the world a better place for children. It doesn’t cost anything to take part and they don’t need to have done this type of thing before - just have a willingness to learn and get stuck in! Find out more. Closing date: 10pm on Sunday 24th September 2023.
Our Year
Our journey to become a Child Friendly City is part of the legacy of ‘2022 Our Year’ – a year long programme of activities, events and opportunities across the city for children and young people. Watch the video to see highlights from the year.

Know a young person aged 14-25 with SEND who'd like to have a say?
Tell them about the city's Changemakers!
The Changemakers meet regularly to contribute to local decision-making, review services for disabled young people in Manchester, and to develop their own self-advocacy skills, independence, and friendships. They are supported by Greater Manchester Youth Network in partnership with Manchester City Council. The group welcomes more young people who want to make a difference.
