Get Ready, Set, Read! with this year’s Summer Reading Challenge
The Summer Reading Challenge to encourage children to continue reading over their summer break is back!
Launching in Libraries on 3 July, children are invited to kick off their summer reading and see if they can read 6 books before 16 September. Join at your local library to receive a special collector folder and start reading books to earn a medal and certificate. Read six books for a medal, but why stop there?

Curry Mile – A Changing Neighbourhood
A documentary photography project spanning 7 years (2016-2023). Photographers Michael Baker & Phil Portus explore ‘present day’ Wilmslow Road, Rusholme, and challenge perceptions of what ‘Curry Mile’ now represents. The exhibition runs from 10th July - 30th September. To accompany this exhibition, we are hosting a talk with the photographers on Thursday 20th July at 6pm.

Our Green and Pleasant Land
A free community resilience festival pageant. Join Jenna and friends as they discover how creatively together we can make our local communities more resilient to changes in our climate - join the pageant and help St George slay our giant Climate Change Dragon puppet with the help of some friendly fruit and vegetables! Victoria Mill Green and Miles Platting Library Saturday 1st July 1 - 4pm. Drop-in, no need to book.

Discovering Manchester: Wildlife & Nature
Wildlife is always just a walk away wherever you are in Manchester and the beautiful countryside that surrounds it. This exhibition showcases the creative talents and passions of our Central Library staff members. Central Library 7th July - 6th October.

Manchester Local & Family History Society Events
The MLFHS have two talks taking place in July: Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal The History & Preservation of the Canal. By Paul Hindle; and Urmston, Flixton and Davyhulme: A Postcard Heritage talk by Michael Billington. Central Library Wednesday 19th July Canal talk 10.30am Postcard talk 1.00pm.

Paper Piano retrospective exhibition
For the last 10 years, Paper Piano have been creating music related artwork and packaging, more recently they have focused on hand-made books. Paper Piano have worked with many illustrious musicians and bands. Included in the exhibition will be releases that have featured local talent including Mark Hoyle, SPIRIT:level, and Gideon Conn. Z-Arts Children's Library Volunteers
Our friends at Z-arts are looking for volunteers at their fabulous new Children’s Library. If you can commit a small amount of time each week, enjoy working with children and are enthusiastic about reading, books, stories and creativity then this could be the volunteering opportunity for you.

Holiday Activity Fund Sessions
Manchester Libraries will again be hosting activities for 10-15 year olds this Summer. Free lunch will be provided at these activities which will take place at Central, Gorton, Forum, Withington, Newton Heath and Miles Platting libraries. Sessions will take place twice a week throughout August. More details will be available will the next newsletter, or pop into one of these libraries in July for more detail
