Fatoumata shares her success
Fatoumata Sy, a pre-entry learner from Abraham Moss, shows us how a positive mindset and a proactive attitude can help you achieve what you really want.
Previously Fatoumata had worked as a cleaner in offices and private homes, but always dreamed of being able to work with small children in the UK. She has now made her dream a reality and secured a role in a nursery.
Fatoumata said, “I feel very happy because I have made progress. Before my lessons I cannot do any other job but cleaning - English was a big barrier. Since I started this course I have made progress, big progress and now when I have an interview I am able to do everything by myself. I am so very proud of myself and happy - this new job feels better than cleaning.”
Fatoumata also used her new digital skills to find the job online and complete the initial application, proving how using a computer in class has its uses outside of the classroom too.
Fatoumata will continue with her studies in order to learn more and progress even further with her English skills. Good luck Fatoumata and thank you for showing us how to aim high!

Make sure your vote counts
Voting is one of the most important things a resident can do - it’s our chance to have a say in what happens in our communities and the country and ensure our views are considered.
There’s a big voting related change coming this year - for the first time voters in the UK will need to show photo ID with when voting at a polling stations. This means you will need to bring an acceptable form of ID, such as a passport, residence card or driving licence, to be able to vote. This will apply in England at the local elections on Thursday 4 May 2023. You can read more about what you need to bring here.
Oh! and whilst we are on the topic - are you on the list to vote? If not, or you are unsure, you can click to register to vote - it only takes a few minutes but the effects of your vote could last a lifetime!
Thanks for reading, we wish you a happy and healthy twelve months ahead.
