Let’s talk about maths
This week has seen Maths Week England take place, opening up conversation around mathematics across the nation.
Often when people think back to studying maths at school the words ‘difficult’ or ‘boring’ come into mind, however our adult courses at MAES can make the subject much more accessible. At MAES maths is more about having fun with your brain, looking for patterns and spotting connections, solving problems, and gaining qualifications along the way.
Paul Kelly studied with MAES last year and, despite having some serious health problems during his course, obtained his maths GCSE - passing with flying colours! Paul needed to gain a GCSE in maths in order to reach his goal of studying ancient history at university.
Paul went through a difficult time but explained he had plenty of support from his fellow students and ‘knowledge that we could all support each other, which we did as a class. The support I received from the staff and in particular my tutor Arfan was invaluable’, demonstrating how learning with MAES is a team experience where you never need to feel lost or alone.

Manchester leads the way on sustainable festive fun
Before our December issue comes out you will have noticed that Manchester’s Christmas markets will have opened, however this year there is a sustainable twist as Manchester prioritises being as green as possible.
Amazingly all the electrical power for the markets will come from recycled food waste, whilst the illuminated logos will be made from sugar cane! You can read more about these smart and environmentally-friendly ideas here.
The markets are set to open on Thursday 10th November and their webpage gives a great overview of what to expect. We hope you can enjoy a visit this winter.
