Black History Month Craft sessions
Black History Month Portrait Creation
Create and decorate your own portrait using different creative materials (collage, coloured pencils, pastels etc.) of important black historic figures who fought against discrimination and promoted social and cultural inclusion. FREE drop-in sessions suitable for aged 5+
Join Artist Tina Ramos Ekongo designing your own African Mask. African masks are part of African tradition and used in ceremonial costume for religious and social events to represent the spirits of ancestors.
Black History Month Arts and Craft session
Join us in our Black History Month craft. We’ll make a piece of art with messages on that will be displayed in the library as well as your own artwork to take away.

Black History Month HOME storytime session workshops
HOME is running three family-friendly workshops in Manchester libraries this October half-term. So if you’re looking to get crafty and creative, these free drop-in workshops will focus on storytelling and story-making and will encourage young children to develop their own stories.
Workshops will take place at:
Central Library Manchester Monday 24 October 2 - 4pm
Longsight Library and Learning Centre Wednesday 26 October 2 - 4pm
Moss Side Powerhouse Library Thursday 27 October, 11am - 1pm Free drop-in, suitable for up to age 10 years.

Little Reads Family Day
Looking for a fun way to introduce children to important environmental issues? Author Sarah Roberts will be sharing her latest beautifully illustrated book Somebody Woke Wilson. Sarah will be joined by our wonderful Little Reads artist Nanya Lad providing a big fun craft session making recycled craft to take home. You can also go on an adventure around Central Library with our Earth Activity Trail. Collect your activity sheet and follow the big footprints to learn about the world around you. Collect your prize at the end!

Family Film Club Saturday
15 October, 1pm - 4pm
Join us at Central Library for themed crafts and showcased books linked to this month’s film. The club is free to join, and we may even have popcorn! Bring the family for a free afternoon of fun.

Mandarin Storytime
Saturday 22 October, 3pm - 4pm
Central Library is hosting its Mandarin Storytime. The story will be told in Mandarin and English and we invite you to come along to enjoy the story in both languages. Suitable for 4 to 7-year-olds (with parent/guardian) This a free session for families. No need to book- just drop in and join us!

Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead) Celebration
Saturday 22 October, 1 - 4pm
Come and join us at Central Library in a unique and special ancient Mexican celebration Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead). In Mexican culture it is believed that during this time of the year your lost loved ones come back to visit. Family and friends gather together to honour their relatives & friends by cooking their favourite dishes, dancing, playing music, and telling their favourite stories. Families visit their graves and create elaborate beautiful decorated altars in their homes to welcome them. This is all a part of celebrating the cycle of life. This exciting event will feature:
1 - 1:30pm Story Time (No crafts) 1:30 - 2pm Dance workshop 2 - 3pm Crafts and face painting 3 - 4pm Colibrí Mexican Folkdance UK Performance, face painting and dancing children workshop. An authentic example of a typical Mexican altar (ofrenda) that is present in every Mexican household at this time of the year will also be on display in the Link Area, lower ground floor for 2 weeks. FREE drop-in, all welcome.

Spooky Sunday: Horrible Family Halloween Party
Central Library opens its doors to little spooks and ghouls for a fun-filled family spectacular. Fearsome face painters, spooky silent disco, creepy crafts and maybe a few treats and scary surprises. Fancy dress is absolutely encouraged – so dust down your capes, polish your broomsticks and enjoy a spooktacular evening filled with ghoulish delights!

Children’s Football Writing Festival
This family-friendly celebration event takes place during the October Half Term. It is all about encouraging younger visitors to pick up a pen and transfer some of their football flair to paper, and it is all FREE for Manchester residents!
