Pedestrianisation of Stevenson Square hits new milestone
After Stevenson Square closed permanently to traffic during the Covid pandemic, there has been strong public support to make its closure permanent.
Now, following several consultations the Council has been able to ensure that the majority of the square will remain pedestrianised. This is alongside several planned improvements to make the Northern Quarter a better place for pedestrians and cyclists.

Get Gadget-tastic with this year's summer reading challenge
Youngsters in Manchester will be encouraged to hit the books as the Summer Reading Challenge returns.
It is simple to take part in this year’s technology themed journey – children just have to read any six library books of their own choice or from the Gadgeteers collection of books and pick up a special sticker each time they finish one.
To find out about the reading challenge and how to get involved in the fun head to the Council's web page on the event.
 Loads to Do this summer
Summer is here, so it's time to get out and about! It's been a tough couple of years for us all but not least for Manchester's children and young people, who have shown immense resilience in the face of the pandemic. We want to celebrate their courage in 2022 Our Year, and make sure there are plenty of ways for them to stay stimulated and have fun when they're off school.
Keep an eye on the Loads To Do website, which will be updated throughout the holidays with loads of great activities for children and young people across parks, sports, libraries, galleries and more to keep you and your family busy and entertained this summer.
