News
Manchester Day returns this Sunday 19 June
After a two-year absence due to Covid, Manchester Day is back on Sunday 19 June, from 11am - 5pm. Special popup events are taking place across the city, including the celebrated Manchester Day Parade starting at 1pm.
For full details of road closures, parking restrictions and the parade route please visit the Manchester Day website at: Home - Manchester Day
Passengers urged to plan ahead during week of rail strikes
Three days of strike action across the country’s railway networks are due to take place on Tuesday 21, Thursday 23 and Saturday 25 June, resulting in very few services running.
Disruption is expected to spill over into non-strike days and services that do run are expected to be extremely busy. Local rail operators Northern and Transpeninne Express are encouraging passengers not to travel with them.
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is working with operators to provide enhanced services across the bus and tram network, where possible. Additional double trams will be running across Metrolink on strike days and will be prioritised in areas of greatest demand to help passengers get around, with thousands of free park and ride spaces available at dozens of sites across Greater Manchester.
A dedicated travel info page has been set up to help people plan their journey: Industrial action on the rail network | (tfgm.com)

New Government Hub in Manchester planned for 2025
Thousands of civil servants will move to a state of the art new building in the heart of Manchester from 2025, the Government has announced today.
The Government Property Agency (GPA) has signed a lease agreement earlier this week with developer Ask Real Estate and its JV partner, The Richardson Family, for a c12,000 square metre site on First Street.
The move is part of the government's Places for Growth programme, which aims to relocate 22,000 civil service roles out of London by 2030. The Manchester First Street Hub is expected to open in 2025.

Manchester approves 3,000-capacity leisure venue
The creation of The Foundry, an entertainment, enterprise and cultural hub at the former Presbar Diecasting Foundry on Store Street, will provide “economic and social regeneration” to the surrounding area, according to the city council.
Plans for The Foundry were developed by hospitality firm A Very Inc, who have been involved in several successful Manchester ventures including Ramona, Albert’s Schloss and Rudy’s.
Their latest project would see the four-acre Store Street site transformed into a 3,000-capacity leisure venue for a period of three years. Creating around 1,000 jobs, the scheme aims to boost the leisure provision in order to serve the area’s growing population.

In today’s increasingly digital-first world, small businesses face lots of risks operating online. Cybercrime can impact a business through lost time, financial losses or reputational damage. Without the correct precautions in place, cyberattacks on small businesses are wide-reaching.

We want to ensure that residents, workers and visitors are safe and therefore we have set up two tiers of support for businesses.

Measures to comply with health and safety duties on reopening workplaces need to be considered at an early stage in the process and we are here to offer advice where needed. We have a free risk assessment template and check list of control measures which can be used and adapted to your requirements.
- On site audits and assessments are also available for more detailed and sector specific enquiries.
