Free Travel Training For 14-25s |
|
‘Phil has helped break down my anxiety about letting my son go out on his own. Before this, he was at home all the time. Now he likes to get out and about.’
Since the autumn, Manchester City Council has funded free Travel Training for young disabled people aged 14-25 living in the city. Travel Training is a one to one experience geared to the young person, developing their confidence and skills in travelling independently on public transport or by walking. But it’s about much more than travel! The training is with Phil Samphire who has a wealth of knowledge about activities in the city and beyond and can tailor things to your young person’s interests and needs. To sign up, contact Phil on psamphire@icloud.com or 07429 351627.

Brew, Toast & Chat
Have a cuppa and natter at a new informal group at Benchill Community Centre in Wythenshawe. It’s on Thursdays 1-2pm and is a chance for adults looking after children with special educational need and disabilities to support each other. Sometimes it helps just being with other people who get it. Bob along any time during the hour, no need to book. You’re welcome to bring your children and stay afterwards for the free weekly Public Living Room from 2-4pm. If you have any questions, text or call Colette on 07853 841290 or email colette@thrivemanchester.org.uk.
LGBTQ+ Carers Group
June is Pride Month and being LGBTQ+ and a carer can bring additional challenges that others may not understand. Gaddum and the LGBT Foundation have an LGBTQ+ Carers Network on the last Tuesday of every month from 6-7pm - next one 28th June. It’s an opportunity to meet others, chat about a range of topics and join in social activities, either online or in person. Contact keisha.tomlinson@gaddum.org.uk to sign up.
