Festival of Libraries 2022 15 - 19 June
There's something for everyone at the Festival of Libraries this year, taking place in every borough of Greater Manchester and involved more than 100 of your local libraries! Join the likes of Lemn Sissay, Lenny Henry, Julie Hesmondhalgh, Jackie Kay, Greg Jenner, Jay Blades and more for inspirational talks, workshops, dance, crafts, music and some things you might not expect to find in a library!

Sunday Funday: A Royal Celebration June 5th

Inspired by Libraries: Lemn Sissay
Join Poet Lemn Sissay OBE for an exciting talk for young people on how libraries have inspired him in his life, taking place at Manchester Central Library as part of the Festival of Libraries 2022. Trailblazers! Women of Manchester and the North West
Celebrate pioneering women from the history of Manchester. Enjoy family friendly activities and hear short talks on Louise Da-Cocodia, Ellen Wilkinson, Elizabeth Gaskell and Elizabeth Raffald. The Shadowgirl Show
Shadow Girl is a new adventure story about a girl called Sabrina, who has a vivid imagination. Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations
Manchester’s libraries will be hosting events during jubilee week to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. We have already begun celebrating the Queen’s 70 years on the throne with an exhibition of her life on display at Central Library. On the run up to Bank Holiday weekend, and over the weekend itself, 18 of our libraries will be holding an event to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Head over to our blog for details

Hand Stitched Banner Making Workshops for Adults
Leading up to Refugee Week 20-26 June, we will be holding a series of workshops with artist Ibukun Baldwin resulting in a beautiful welcome banner, which will be displayed in Central Library during Refugee Week. Monday 13 June and Thursday 16 June, 12-2:30pm. Booking essential via Eventbrite.

Happy safe and free art workshops
Free art workshops for people who are refugees, asylum seekers and their families - all welcome! Create work for an art exhibition across the city marking the beginning of Refugee Week. Work will be displayed in eleven Manchester locations including museums, galleries, and our libraries. Saturday 28 May and Saturday 4 June 2-4pm at North City Library in Harpurhey. Designing Costumes with Manchester Jewish Museum
This summer the Royal Exchange Theatre will set up its eco-friendly mobile theatre, the Den, at the Ukrainian Cultural Centre (29 July - 6 August). A brand new play about Cheetham Hill Road, made with local residents in M8 will premiere at the festival. Help create costumes for the play with the Royal Exchange on Thursday 9 and 23 June 4pm-5.30pm. To sign up please email Dara: dara@manchesterjewishmuseum.com

Klezmer Tune Club
A book-club-meets-folk-session, which brings together musicians (of any level, background, or instrument) to explore tunes from the rich klezmer tradition. Each session will involve klezmer musicians, Richard Fay and Daniel Mawson, teaching participants a klezmer song, to be played with a variety of instruments. Participants will also learn the history of the piece. The next session is Tuesday June 11 at 6pm, get your ticket at the Manchester Jewish Museum
