Age Friendly Libraries
|
|
|
From 1 June all libraries in Manchester will have 'Age Friendly Libraries' status and proudly display the new Manchester Age Friendly Library Logo!
Libraries are creative, community hubs that are vital to building resilient and cohesive neighbourhoods , offering older people a safe , enjoyable and positive experience when they visit , with comfortable places to sit and enjoy the company of others.
Library staff recently carried out customer questionnaires to find out what is important to older customers and after reading their comments we have already started to make changes around seating , signage and activities we offer.
Everyone is invited to pop in for a drink and a chat at our weekly Age Friendly drop-ins for older people, where you can access information displayed on our dedicated Age Friendly noticeboard, enjoy an activity / event or socialise. You can contact your local library to find out when their drop-ins are taking place. To find your nearest library click here.
Manchester Libraries team-up with the Wildlife Trust
During June, Manchester Libraries will be supporting the Wildlife Trust's national campaign "30 Days Wild" - Take a walk on the wild side... 30 Days Wild, the UK’s biggest nature challenge, is back! | The Wildlife Trusts.
Every year The Wildlife Trust invites people to do one wild act every single day during the month of June, with the aim of bringing people closer to nature. Last year supporters completed over 16 million acts of wildness. The most popular activities were wildlife-watching, eating outdoors, planting wildflower seeds and listening to birdsong. Being involved with and enjoying nature has great benefits for physical health and mental wellbeing no matter what age you are, and will also help to heal the planet too as this video from North Manchester shows.
Manchester libraries stock a wide range of books about local wildlife and wild gardening, and Manchester's parks are a great place to take a stroll and enjoy being part of nature - so take a walk on the wild side this June and get closer to nature in your neighbourhood.
